Feng Shui Tips and Advice:  Do you NEED a Feng Shui Consultant?  By Feng Shui Long Island & New York

Feng Shui The Series Part 7

After having practiced Feng Shui in New York for many years, I am still often asked if people can read books and learn enough about Feng Shui to attempt to make changes on their own.

The purpose of this Feng Shui Series has been to provide you with more information and encourage you to TRY Feng Shui.   Often you will see or feel changes that will encourage you to pursue your knowledge and/or hire a Feng Shui Consultant for a complete assessment.

The simple Feng Shui Tips and Advice previously posted can never take the place of an individualized, custom Feng Shui Consultation but I do believe you should try some things at home or your place of business to not only see what changes occur but to FEEL the Energy of those changes.

If you are trying Feng Shui on your own, find one author that you feel comfortable with and stick with their methods.  It's often confusing in Feng Shui with all the different methods and schools of thought to jump from one author to another.  I especially like Karen Kingston and William Spear who help make Feng Shui easy to understand.

The results, however, are not likely to be as profound as having a personalized consultation.  They are designed for YOU and the results are often astonishing.  Feng Shui Consultations can often be done by someone who lives across the Country and be just as effective as an on site Feng Shui Consultation.

Wealth Feng Shui by Feng Shui Long Island & NYC Consultant

Although I am a Feng Shui Consultant in New York, I have worked with clients across the Country.  These are called "Distance Consultations."

What do I look for in a Feng Shui Consultant?

When looking for a Feng Shui Consultant, remember you are not limited by distance.  Years ago Credentials in Feng Shui were important; there are currently no rules or regulations about the Business of Feng Shui.  Anyone can read some books and put up a website as a Feng Shui Consultant or do an online study course, some lasting only a few days.

I suggest you look for someone who has been practicing for a number of years in Feng Shui.  You will not last in this industry if you are not consistently producing real RESULTS for your clients.

Experience is priceless in my opinionAs a Feng Shui Professional I can say that while my clients may be having the same issues, they are all unique individuals and Feng Shui Consultations must be tailored and customized to THEM.  Years of experience in Feng Shui have taught me lessons I would have never found in a book or online.

Since you will be sharing some personal information with your Feng Shui Consultant, do find someone you "connect" with.  You will need to be comfortable with this person to truly address the issues in your life so they can best know how to help you.  PLEASE check their follow-up rules:  Some Feng Shui Consultants follow up for only a certain period of time or number of phone calls....while others provide unlimited follow ups and are there when you need them.

Finally, I do not believe in putting other Feng Shui Consultants down.  While it is fine to list your accomplishments, I have seen the practice of discouraging others from trying Feng Shui on their own and also have seen derogatory remarks about the way other Feng Shui Consultants practice or how you will not get results from "THEM."

With the influx of Feng Shui Consultants in New York, I have come across this and IN MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION, there are still many Feng Shui Consultants who do not charge exorbitant prices and do have your best interests at heart.

Carole - There is just so much to learn about Feng Shui. This series without a doubt is packed full a great deal of information that I have bookmarked to come back to a later date.

Carole -- I never would have thought of the possibility of a long distance feng shui consultation. I cna see that it would work though - sort of like telephone coaching, which can be very effective.  I agree that reading about feng shui can be helpful - certainly a way to get a sense, and maybe do a few things.  But think there is an expertise that time and experience must bring, in order to get the fi=ull effct.  I always enjoy your posts!

Your post expressed about Feng Shui, what I tried to express about staging. Yes, you can try it, and you might even have some success with it, but allowing a professional to assist will make it that much better! Well written post, and like so many others here, I will be back to glean the little things I missed the first time around! Hope things are going better today!

Carole, this is a great conclusion to a great series.

It reminds me in this post of what I tell sellers if they are interviewing more than one agent, "Make sure you feel comfortable with them,"

I tell buyers that same thing with lenders. "make sure you feel comfortable with them."

Carole - Awesome series !  I might check out one of those authors but my favourite author is right here in the Rain - You !!!  I remember when Stephanie and I bought our first condo together to live in.  We did bring in a Feng Shui consultant.  At the time, I knew nothing about it and did not really get what he was saying or recommending although some things made sense.   I do remember though that is when I started to become more interested in learning more about the topic !

One thing I've always learned in sales is to NEVER sell from a negative.

If you're good enough, there's no need to put down your competition.

Great series Carole.

Keep it up!

Carole of course it is possible to "do some of it on your own".  Unfortunately without professional input they may not the full potential that you can offer.  As for putting down others It is far better to pump yourself up by setting a good example and being professional.  Those to employ negative outreach will bring negative energy to themselves in the end.

good morning Carole,

I think one of the most important things to search for when choosing a Feng Shui professional is to find someone who is not only knowledgeable, but also very intuitive and in tune with the energy that surrounds us. That certainly describes you!  When someone chooses you, they get everything they could possibly want in a Feng Shui consultant plus a whole lot more....

Hi Carole, Wow, Feng Shui is so incredibly interesting. Someone had recently told me that my bed should be facing north in order for it be in the proper Feng Shui location. Is this true?  I really don't know that much about it, however I learn alot when reading your posts.

Carole - this has been a wonderfully enlightening series!  I have learned so much from you and I want to thank you for it.  While I would not practice Feng Shui, as I am not trained in it, I would highly recommend it (and YOU!) to anyone that feels like they need a boost to their living circumstances.

Once again you ARE a treasure!

Carole--Like with every service professional, your advice to find someone you connect with, is key. If I ever decide to use a Feng Shui consultant, you will be the very first to know! :)

Carole--I, too, have learned so much about Feng Shui. Now when I look at one of my rooms I think about some of the things you mention in your posts here.  My husband has always liked balance and I like very little clutter.  I agree with getting expert advice as it is hard to be an expert at everything.  Just as I would hire best trainer if I was competing in an Olympic competition.  Have a good weekend.

Joan, I had fun with the series :)  Thank you for letting me know you enjoyed them.

Marchel, This is such a busy time for everyone!  It's been fun putting it together.

Donna, Thank you...I believe I have about 70 posts bookmarked myself :)

Alexsandra, I have done many of them and they all worked well!  I know many people don't realize they're possible.

Hannah, I know under the bed is "storage" for many but it's not recommended...happy clearning :)

Bob & Carolin, All is well, thank you.  I wish the same for you!

Cheryl, Thank you.  I have a feeling most of this your already knew from your classes.  I hope you are enjoying them.

Missy, It's essential to be comfortable and at ease with someone.  I encourage people to call others for that very reason.

Christopher and Stephanie, There are so many levels to Feng Shui but I hope your Consultant taught you the basics and followed up with any questions.

Craig, My thoughts exactly.  I don't know why I'm seeing so much more of it and find it a sad practice.

Paddy, It's a sad thing that's happened in the last few years.  I've seen the worst things written about other Consultants on both websites and blogs.  You're right, it does not make them look better in my opinion.

Jo, Thank you, that's a very nice thing to say.  I do hope people try some things on their own and don't like the "fear" that has become associated with Feng Shui.

Sandy, The directions change and they go with your date of birth in those schools of Feng Shui.  I use different methods but I can tell you to use balance in your bedroom always!  A night stand on either side, two like size lamps, something strong behind your bed to back you up in life.

Carol, And your pictures inspire me...they ARE beautiful.  So is your soul my friend.

Pat, I'm glad you enjoyed it.  I took a break after writing all those local and then the series posts!

Sylvie, Thank you if you re-blogged.  I'm sorry to say that I posted and ran but I left right after for a road trip :)  BTW< I'm going to come anyway!

Jim, Thank you for your comment, I was away for a few days after this post so I'm late getting back to comments.

Teri, It's important in most professions when you work with people.  We all share such personal information it's important to connect with your client.

Mary, Sounds like you both are natural Feng Shui people.  I sometimes see that in a client's home or business where everything is in order and set up well!

I think Stephanie and I would really get a lot out of another Feng Shui consultation.  Do you have any references or recommendations for Philadelphia ?  Wish you were down here !! : )

Hello Carole, since I know so little about the teaching of Feng Shui your blog & series has peaked my interest! I love your business principles in not engaging in the negative. You write as someone who certainly has our best interest at heart! Thank for the education.
