People ask me how do I get so much done in a day? Short answer, "I work at it." But really I have a method to my madness as with everything else. There are
Two Secrets With Time Gaps To Be More Productive.
Think of your 16 or 17 waking hours per day as filled with all these little time gaps in there. You are not always busy with others. You can squirrel away little snippets of time for yourself. Then you know what you want to do for the day like reading, being on the Internet, phone calls, planning, or even down time. As far as "work" goes here are the two secrets to double or triple your output results:
1. Get connected. This may evolve over time with your coordination and budget to get Internet connected in every way possible, LAN, Smartphone, WiFi, Aircard cellular, but it pays off where you can email, have web access, make phone calls or text, anywhere, anytime. Have your zones of WiFi known around the city. I am doing WiFi on an airplane right now.
2. Plan ahead. Know where your time gaps are coming up. Lunch? 2 to 3 p.m. this afternooon? One hour prior to the drive home? Get tasks done in those "gaps." NOT thinking about where the gaps are ahead of time makes you flounder.
You really can get more out of your day!

Gary, I see so often people sitting back complaining that they have so much to do. Then get on it and don't just sit idle. It doesn't get done until you do it!
Gary-Great post. :-)
Hey Gary, Those are great tips for increasing productivity throughout your day! Also, I love that picture; it's beautiful and looks like the perfect spot to spend a little down time and relax!
Have a great day,
Anne Rains
When I have things to do I try to just put my head down and get it done, but sometimes I do end up floundering, that's why I have to work at it myself.
Hi Gary, I like this post - there's quite a bit of things we can find time for, if we just plan it out. I hope you have a pleasant flight, and enjoy wherever it is you are going.
Oh Crap, I just read back on a few of your posts. I'm so sorry Gary, I think I know where you're going. God Bless, and please forgive me for not reading your posts in sequence!
What an awesome picture Gary! Lately I have not had much time on my hands which is certainly a good thing:)
Where did you take that beautiful picture? Thanks for the great advice.
Gary, thatnks for sharing all the tidbits about working better, being organized, planning, considering the soul-side of business. Thanks especially for not saving it all for your book(s), but sharing from your heart and your experience of what you've discovered works for you, and can work for us.
I honestly don't know where I would be without my Bluetooth device. One of these days I'm going to drop it in the water while in the bathtub!
I agree. We can accomplishe so much more these days and it is wonderful. Rememebt the old day's without cell phones and fax machines? How much time did it take to get things done??
Unfortunately, the nature of my business means that there are going to be unplanned-for gaps, which is why I always have my laptop computer, my Canon Rebel camera, and magazines and books with me. If the Realtor or Client is late to an inspection, I can log on to ActiveRain, or take a walk around the neighborhood to see what pictures are for the taking. If I'm going to have to stand in a long line at the post office or grocery store, I have magazines and books to read.
Gary,
Love the picture and glad to be back from vacation catching up on these great messages! You are so right taking advantage of those snippets of time is crucial. The analogy is so appropriate. I've missed posts.
Gary,
Great advice... Hope everything is going well for you.. and I really enjoy the cartoons you send me. Thanks for brightening up my day.
Great comments, all. Russel, that idea to bring the books and magazines along is a good one for the lines. Love your photo. Keeping thatcamera handy you will capture some good stuff. Glad you like the cartoons Judy!
Gary,
Amazing how we try to squeeze every little drop out of our time...what ever happened to the old days of sitting by a stream and just day-dreaming? I think I was born in the wrong century...

Planning ahead makes all the difference.
Good luck and success.

Time Management is vital- the busier you are the more important it becomes. I find keeping a list handy allows me to get more done as I find the gaps in my day, I can fill them with something small which needs to be done.
Errands usually after showings on the way home. It also saves fuel.
Time Blocking workds extremely well- so that you have a visual of what your day looks like.
Excellent post Gary!
Great post, as usual! I love Books a Million. There's Wi-Fi on there and BOOKS!! I go with the girls so we get our story time and they get to play in the choo-choo train. There's my weakness: hot chocolate. Nice music in the back ground. So I can read, spend quality time with the girls, get a great book and still get online if something I got on my Blackberry needs immediate attention. Getting connected is definitely a plus. To plan, I use Google Tasks and Google Calendar. No matter how great your memory is, you just have to calendar everything! I calendar watching a movie, watching the sunset, going to the park, church on Sundays...it's just so official you may just have to do it no matter how busy you are :)
You're amazing!
Great pic Gary the connected man. The only place you don't take that computer is the MBR. Good thing cause you might have stubbed your toe on that instead of the wall. LOL
Great advice - planning is the key! Thanks for sharing!
