FISHING IN FAIRFAX COUNTY VIRGINIA, LAKE BURKE IN BURKE VIRGINIA IS A WONDERFUL "FISHING HOLE".

POPULAR FRESH WATER FISHING AT LAKE BURKE.  With about 220 acres of lake at Lake Burke, there is room for all.  There is a type of fish for just about everyone in Lake Burke ranging from Largemouth Bass, Muskie, Walleye, Channel Catfish, Bluegill and Crappie.  Lesser known White Perch, Yellow Perch, the huge Redear Sunfish and an Blue Catfish can be caught.  Lake Burke

Anglers can fish the many miles of shore or rent a boat and take to the water where the deep water can be reached.  Deeper and colder water are where you're more likely to find Muskie and Walleye.  Of course, in the hot summer of Fairfax County, don't be surprised if the Largemouth Bass have "gone deep" to water with cooler temperatures and more oxygen.  Experienced fishermen know.  Of course, the early morning is still good for shore and close in boat fishing.

Privately owned boats with electric motors are permitted on the lake. No gasoline powered water-craft are permitted. Nominal fees are required for boat rentals, camping, carousel, train and other activities. No swimming please.

In the early spring, the Crappie will school and can be caught in abundance and a more delicious fish is not found in this area.

Fishing at Lake Burke

With miles of shoreline, anglers can take their time and work the edges for lovely feisty Bluegill.  My little "Black Gnat" fly produced about a dozen Bluegill this week in about 1/2 hour of fishing.  What could be more fun?

Thanks Sally.  I am very familiar with all of the fishing holes in Northern Virginia.  I'm going to put up a directory as I visit them.

Steve.  Things have changed.  A wonderful photographer moved in 2 properties away from me and I'm taking him on tours with me to get a library of photos of local attractions.  I'm putting myself in the photos so that folks can identify with a real person enjoying the local fun.

Fernando.  I'm not sure I understand.  I get inspiration from a love of adventure.

Martha.  Indeed.  Every day is an adventure

Lenn, That sure looks like fun!! You know I was never able to get the hang of fly fishing. It's not that popular down here. I guess our fish are just too big :)

Bryant.  Aw shucks.  I've caught stripers on the Chesapeake Bay of 15-20 pounds with a fly rod.  In fact, I caught Baracuda, Jack, Ladyfish in the Keys with a fly rod.  For Tarpon and Bonefish, I used spinning gear.  I'm not crazy.

I have taken 5-6 pound Largemouth in Buggs Island Lake in the Kerr Reservior with a flyrod.

I don't always use it though.  I use spinning gear too.

I just routinely use this little fly rod around here because it's all that's really needed.

Lenn - You really are quite a lady - an angler, a skeet shooter and a hard core real estate adviser. What a superb combination!  Ahhh - 15-20 pound stripers (my favorite catch) on a fly rod - nice action.

Hi Lenn, Fishermen & women ( fisherpeople?)  are going to love this post!  I love this post, and I can't fish - in fact I have had a post about fishing in draft mode for about a week! LOL

Judy.  Thanks.  Catching any fish any place any time is always a thrill.

Mary.  Write it.  I'm looking forward to it.

Lenn,

Such well written post, good photo, jargon that I, not a fisherman, can't understand, this all sounds outdoors, sound summer, sound fun.

And yes, photos of people give it another dimension, because whether we understand it or not, we size things against people, and when there are no people in the landscape, it may be confusing to scale the objects.

Don't go fishing to Central Florida. BB got all the fish anyway, plus he has a rifle... and you can't bring yours across the state line...

Jon.  Thanks.  I love summer.  Yes, I decided to put myself in photos when possible of late, just to make them more familiar to folks so they can see themselves enjoying our wonderful area.

Shirley.  One nice little bass.  Little is the best description.

I knew little black gnats must be good for something.

I could only catch that many fish in that short a time at a fish farm.

Jim.  AH!  The fish farm.  I love to fish them too.  There's a state fish farm about 50 miles away.  I'm fine with the local lakes.  A bit of a challenge but great fun.

Lenn - bluegill on light tackle, a lot of fun. You wrote you have an Orvis fly rig. Have you been to their headquarters in Vermont? I am a spinning rig afficianado but I do enjoy the pure art of fly fishing.

I am so glad to see some other Ladies that also enjoy fishing. My absolute favorite is Crappie and they are also my favorite to dine on!

Mike.  I've never been there.  I appreciate the Orvis tackle though.  Always have.  I love light spinning gear too.  If I'm in a place where the casting could be a problem, my little spinner is ready.

Laura.  I've loved fishing since my grandparents put a pond on the farm in NC when I was about 8.  My grandfather took me squirrel hunting too.  It's been a big part of my live ever since.  I've fished all over this country and Canada.  Great fun.

This is good stuff -- and I am smacking myself that we don't "get out" more around here.  We head to the Outer Banks or drive for miles and miles instead of looking around our own backyard!  Thanks for the reminder!  My husband is an avid angler and looks forward to your directory.

Susan.  If there's a body of water I haven't fished in Northern Virginia, it's only because I didn't believe it would be any good.

Wow, maybe I'll be able to take advantage of some of that in a couple of weeks when I visit the area.  Thanks for sharing it.

LOTS of little lakes around here with good fishing.

I carry my gear in the car with me so if I find one while I'm travellling I can stop for awhile.

Nice to see you had a companion for taking your pictures with you in them.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.  I appreciate it.

Lenn, your local posts are truly inspiring.  I'll need to check out your blog every morning to get that inspiration I need to get back to blogging about the local market.

Keep up the great work!

Maggie.  Get to it.  It's fun when you make up your mind to visit local folks and write about them.

Erby.  Lots of fishing around here.  It's rather hot, but you can always catch something.
