Teaching Them To Praise The Lord - At An Early Age

I read a post recently written by Loreena Yeo called If You Teach Them, They Will Learn. She talked about teaching her young son to love the Lord.  When I read that post, it made me think of my own children and my goals for them.

We regulate their music so they only listen to songs that are appropriate for their ages. Remember this song?

Oh be careful little ears what you hear
For there's a God up above
Looking down on you with love.
Oh be careful little ears what you hear!

The other verses are:

Oh be careful little eyes what you see
Oh be careful little mouth what you say

This picture is of our youngest when we were on our way home from church one day.  They are 17 month old identical twin boys, praising the Lord.  We were listening to 95.5 The Fish, a Christian radio station.

Micah and Joshua praising the Lord!

My hope and prayer is that we raise all 6 of our children to love the Lord and to be contributing members of their society! I know that teaching them to praise the Lord now will have many benefits later!

Oh yes. If only we knew back then what we know now. It's refreshing to see someone doing the right thing in bringing up their children

RENAE:I love your message. It is never too young to teach children good habits and build great character and traits that they bring to their adult lives. Praising the Lord is a wonderful lesson to teach our children. My sons were taught early on to pray to Jesus and love the Lord. They went to church starting as infants and continued this practice.

Love it, what a treat to see this in action. I enjoyed reading the words of the song as well. Good luck and praise the lord for folks like you.

Thanks Robert.  We are definitely trying to do the right thing.

It really isn't always easy, Kathleen, but we do our best. Our eldest is now starting to buck the system by questioning everything (he's 14). But my husband and I just keep giving him practical advice that "the Bible says."  So far, so good.  With the younger ones, we sing a lot of songs during the day so I choose songs that have meaning to a 3 and 4 year old.

Charles, I know exactly what you mean because too many people don't think it is politically correct to teach their children to praise the Lord.  That's what's wrong with our societies today.  Glad you liked the song!

Renae...

Your Boys are so precious. Talk about cute :)

And I so have to tell you that I also have identical twin Boys Men. They're 33 now, but they're still by Boys :)

The cute factor wears off after a while.  Then it's just: "get out of there!" or "don't do that!" or "put that down!" or "stop hitting him!"  Of course, mine are a looooooooong way from 33!!  Nice to know someone survived it!  (Did you happen to have other children along with the twins or were they it for you?  And did you ever threaten to shoot them as a disciplinary action?  I'm just wonderin on that last one.)

Your last statement, "I know that teaching them to praise the Lord now will have many benefits later!"  If only more parents would do this now...the benefits would be so rewarding.

Love it Renae.  Your boys are adorable.  I have to tell you my daughters are going to be teaching Sunday School this year to the 6 - 8 year old group at church. I am so proud of them.

LOL Renae...

No. I never threatened them with my weapons. They were both Marines. They're the ones who taught me to use guns and appreciate the value of a good weapon :)

The only threat that ever worked on them was taking away their telephone, and telephone privileges. When they were young they placed a high value on that stupid telephone :)

When they were going through the terrible two's I made the decision not to have any more children. In my heart I knew I didn't have it in me to raise them and other children to boot. I envisioned them going through puberty, and that did it the trick :)

I was a single Mom until they were 9. I was both their Father and their Mother during that time. Once they turned 4 or so I didn't have much trouble with them. I actually enjoyed most of their antics, they'd crack me up. But that whole puberty thing, accompanied by being twins, was dreadful :)

It took us a while, Rebecca, but we are finally got it.  I pray that we can just keep it going, you know?  Keep them on the right track.

That's absolutely awesome, Paddy!  How exciting.  Are they excited?

We are definitely afraid of the terrible two's and puberty, TLW.  It is going to be a rough, rough time around here.  Most of the time though, you're right - they are so funny.  The things those twins do.  But then, we have several comedians in the family here.  Our 3 y.o., well he's just hilarious.  Our 11 y.o. is the family clown and just does and says things that have us cracking up all the time.  Mischevious comedians.  That what we have.

Good Lord...

You have your hands full :)

My only thought after I read that is: We were all created to have a sense of humor. Personally, I think that was a special gift for all women who would bear and raise children :)

I don't think we'd be able to do it if we couldn't laugh at the small stuff :)

Okay, I have to tell you, your boys are absolutely darling!!!!!

My two are in Chandler Christian School, are they have come to know the Lord.  It has been refreshing and quite a blessing all in one!

God Bless you with all 6 and I praise you...my 2 are a handful in itself, but a joy!
