I try to be a very positive person and I hate to rant and complain. But to all Arizona Real Estate Agents who are to "important" to give updates and communicate on short sales or bank owned property offers, the reality is: You only think you are special and "all that." Actually, you are rude, insensitive, unprofessional, and lack character.

You may have tons of listings and things may be going your way right now, and that is your excuse as to why you can't perform a simple phone call or return an email. The day will come when your rude behavior will come back to your detriment. You reap what you sow, is an eternal truth and this behavior will come back to you.

Believe me, you are NOT as special as you think you are and if you really want to be a top agent, be courteous and return calls and give important information to your counterparts.

It does seem that many agents are to busy to follow up with the simpliest of details on a transaction.

I wonder how many of them are so inexperienced they just don't know any better.  They may have been in the business for a few years but a couple of years ago you did not have to do ANYTHING to make money in either real estate or lending.  It takes a pro to survive now.  Why is it, though, that so many of the bad ones seem to have so many foreclosure listings?

I wonder too how many of them are working other jobs to make ends meet and real estate is only a part time gig for them.

I had to giggle reading this because there really are a lot of self important kooks in our business, aren't there? HAHAH

The really successful ones are the nicest . . . and they have the longest careers.

There's nothing to prove. Just let's get it done! :)

Unfortunately Jane, these are large companies and experience agents in this market and they really just think they are above common courtesy. Even if you are working at another job you should have the courtesy to do the job the right way and not make excuses.

OK, your blog touched a live nerve with me. I have been selling REO's for the past 9 years...I have always updated all listings and returned all calls plus informed agents if their contract packages were complete.

I am tired of the agents who never answer their cell phones, who ask you to text or e-mail if you want to know if a property is available and don't respond. Recently, I e-mailed and faxed a contract to an agent and after calling for several hours found out that their e-mail and e-fax was not working, so I asked for another fax to use......called back an hour later and the home was sold, found that very interesting. Also, I like the agents who do not call or e-mail back with the lockbox code.....when I finally got in touch with one agent, she said that they had 6 offers and were not accepting anymore....well I am not a mind reader so put it in the remarks section of the listing.

Common courtesy has gone out of style - I started selling in 1982 - I remember when agents got together and actually tried to help one another.

Venting time over for me, thanks for listening.

Barb, I couldn't agree MORE! I have the same experiences as you described them and thus my blog on the rude and unprofessional agents. As you can see from a couple of comments excuses are made for the agents as being new, or only part time. That is unacceptable, if they are agents they should act professionally. Anyway, thanks for letting me know I'm not alone in my distain for the rude element in our business.
