Long Island is officially on Danny alert!...

Straight from the news, Long Island is officially on Danny alert!

Tropical Storm Danny strengthened and is headed for the East Coast. Not Fun.

Danny is not expected to make landfall here but residents are being warned to prepare for the possibility of high winds, heavy rains and flooding this weekend.

Be prepared, some suggestions:

Emergency radio
Flashlights
Extra batteries
Bottle water, juices and non-perishable packaged or canned food
First emergency kit with medicine and prescription drugs
Telephones, fully charged cell phone with extra battery and a traditional (not cordless) telephone set
Keep important documents such as insurance, medical records, Social Security card, and bank account numbers, in a waterproof container or watertight resealable plastic bag
Cash & Credit Cards, ATMs may not work
Full tank of gas

Hopefully all this won't be necessary, but it is always a good thing to be ready!

I am relieved that I no longer own coastal real estate. This storm and it's potentil after effects (flooding) should not be taken for granted.

Hi Vickie, you can never take any storm for granted. And we have not had a major hurricane here in a while, we tend to forget, but need to be ready!

My daughter is an international flight attendant and due to fly back about that time. She is based out of JFK. I'm glad you brought it to my attention at least I will have an idea of why she might get in late.

Marchel, I hope that your daughter will make it back without much delay. Hopefully Danny will stay as far away from us, as it can.

Lourdes - I'm hoping everybody stays safe in New York. Get all your need supplies.

Danny sounds more like a good friend from high school than a tropical storm, but I know how dangerous they can be if people aren't prepared. Be safe!
