The new Mesa Del Sol development in Albuquerque, NM claims a true commitment to green building standards and sustainability.

Water conservation and energy efficiency are touted as integral to this development, which focuses on building a "mixed-use" community where homes, retail shops, commercial development and open space are blended, to make it easy and convenient for residents to live, work, shop, and enjoy recreation right in the immediate area.

Mesa Del Sol developers talk about this as a sustainable community, which will bring people out of their homes and cars, encouraging them to be connected to each other and the environment, and thus be more active and healthy as well.

Part of the Mesa Del Sol strategy is to insure that all the homes in this new area of Albuquerque will be built to the EPA's standard for ENERGY STAR efficiency, and thus at least 15% more efficient than those built just to the 2004 International Residential Code. Mesa Del Sol will be the first master-planned community in New Mexico in which every home is ENERGY STAR rated and adaptable for both water harvesting systems and photovoltaic cells! Look for the first Mesa Del Sol homes to be available in 2008!

2 Comments on Going Green in Albuquerque: Mesa Del Sol promotes sustainability

We need more efforts/communities like this throughout the country.  I am happy about the push for green homes....as they happen to burn lots of energy.  Its not just the cars that need to become more fuel efficient!
