Project Blogger Logo When two people email you in the span of three days with the exact same question, it's time to throw the answer out into the blogosphere for more people to find it.

The question: Can I embed a Google map right inside my Wordpress blog post?

The answer: Yes, you can embed a Google Map right into your Wordpress blog post. (This is only for self-hosted Wordpress blogs, not wordpress.com blogs). It requires the Geopress plugin.

I put up an example on the RealEstateShows.com Blog, which is run on Wordpress.

EDIT: if you don't click that link above, you will have not be able to see the "dynamic nature" of the map. It's not an image in a post. It's a truly functional google map embedded in the post itself. You can see another working version here on Julie's Community Page.

This is a little off topic, but is there a reason why you have chosen Wordpress over other alternatives such as TypePad or Blogger? Just Curious!

Erion... not that off topic at all. :) I have blogs on Typepad, Blogger, Vox, Moveable Type, Wordpress.com and hosted Wordpress.org blogs. We chose Wordpress.org, and recommend Wordpress.org, because of the multitude of templates and plugins available for the hosted solution. And, it simply works.

I too like wordpress.org I think there is a learning curve and finding the right template can take time. I enjoy trying different templates and plugins as it makes for a nice looking site.

All right, then. Didn't quite get this until I noted the cursor turn to the hand over your example and I could move the map around within the frame. Oh that's why you used the term dynamic map...

A little slow today, but I will get there. I place this comment because if I missed the point - others may have missed it as well.

Personal blog (for politics and personal venting) is on blogger. Not ready to switch...yet. But I will keep reading your posts until I get a wordpress blog and run it from an apple.

This tool is amazing! I love it. As I mentioned on your reshows blog, I need to make the big switch to the .org version of wordpress. I just posted a question about. I finally realize the limitations of my .com version. I can't embed the realestateshows and now I can't use this cool map feature.

Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to try it out when I make the big switch!

Ginger... the .com version has the benefit of being simple to set up and run, but it lacks many customization options. The plugins and themes available on for self-hosted wordpress make it the best open source solution... in my opinion.

I am currently on W.com. If I switch to the .org and use my WP.com as a host, will I lose potential flexibility. (or more clearly said- will I be able to use the full flexibility of what Wordpress.org has to offer?)

Chris... I've never looked into the W.com hosting options. However, if you are able to use W.com as a host and they are simply installing your own database, it will be exactly the same as if you were on any other host. The key in asking them about this is if they will allow you to install your own themes and plugins. If their hosting plan allows that, you're golden.

Kevin & Monica... you need to choose a new template for your site, that's the issue. You've chosen the most basic generic blog template. There are MANY to choose from that will do what you're looking for automatically.
