2009 Hurricane Expo at The Custom Home + Remodel Show

By
Real Estate Agent with Brand Name Real Estate

It's time again for the Annual Charleston Custom Home + Remodel Show.  This year's show will run August 28 - 30, 2009.  And just in time for the height of hurricane season will be the Annual Charleston Hurricane Expo as part of this show.

Charleston Home + Design Magazine has partnered with WCBD Count on News 2 to present the Fifth Annual Charleston Hurricane Expo on Saturday, August 29, 2009, from 10:00am - 6:00pm.  During this event, 500 FREE Hurricane Kits will be provided to home show guests (limited one per household).  The Charleston Hurricane Expo is a not-for-profit event that will take place at Gaillard Auditorium alongside the Custom Home + Remodel Show.

Channel 2 staff will give homeowners a Charleston True Value 5-gallon bucket to collect all necessary supplies for the Hurricane Kit.  Homeowners will then proceed to the Hurricane Expo area upstairs, where they will visit various emergency preparedness organizations' displays to pick up additional items for the kit.  The Hurricane Kit will be complete after visiting all participating vendor booths and will include the following:

· Flashlight w/ batteries
· 42-piece First Aid Kit
· Can Opener
· Rain Ponchos
· Glow Stick
· Hand Sanitizer
· Signaling Whistle
· Dust Masks
· Clean-up Garbage Bags
· Latex Gloves
· Brown Jersey Gloves
· Bottled Water
· Koozie
· SCDOT Evacuation Map
· Storm Team 2 Hurricane Tracking Calendar
· Emergency Preparedness Pocket Guide
· Crime Prevention Coloring Book / Crayons
· and much more ALL in a Five-gallon Container

This is a wonderful community event that will help you gather all of the essential hurricane supplies so that you will be prepared in the event of a hurricane this year.   You never know if one will hit us until it does, so best to be prepared!

We'll see you there!

Hi Jim & Maria:

That's a great idea.

We all should have a bucket prepared in case of a hurricane or emergency situation.

With another hurricane cruising our coasts people should be interested. Thankfully, Daniel like Bill will not be a problem. SC has small craft advisories up and NC expects a little beach erosion. Hopefully, people stay in close to shore as rip currents will be plentiful and have caused several to drown already this year.

Maria and Jim - Sounds like a great way to get the people to see the whole show and at the end have a helpful (although I hope it never has to be used) hurricane prep kit.

As hurricane season rapidly approaches, this information is essential to know.

Geat job providing this to the public Jim and Maria.

And the home show should be a wonderful time to see what's new and different in the market for folks thinking of remodeling their homes.

Well done my friend.

Toula: We have lots of stuff in preparation for a hurricane, but it's not all in one place.  I think this is a novel idea on many different levels.

John: Very sound advice.  So many surfers go out into the waves from these storms, but it worries me that it draws so many when every news report it telling us to stay out of the water.

Dan: It is a pretty neat idea.  Though I also hope it's just something that sits and gathers dust.

I used to love going to home and garden shows but I think I'm becoming allergic to large crowds.
