The following photo was taken in Red Lodge on the night of August 27, 2009.

There are not too many lights as you can see in the mountains in the background.

The full moon, the dark blue sky, the pink colored clouds and the mountain tops dominate this breathtaking view.

Have a good night from Red Lodge.

What a beautiful picture to paint!  Did you actually take this yourself and do I have your permission to paint it??

Lynn,

Thank you.  I did take this photograph.  I enjoy photography and sharing my photos here on ActiveRain.  You got my permission to paint this scene from this photo as long as you can show me the final product (I would like to see how it turns out) and mention where you got your inspiration from to those who ask.  :)

What kind of painting do you do and how long have you been painting?

David,

You are welcome.  Never did I expect this photo to provide inspiration for a painting and a book.  We got lots of interesting and talented people here on AR!  :)

Thank you for the positive feedback.

Gerry - That does it!  I think it's time for me to hunt down a dude ranch to visit in Montana:-)  Just as long as I don't run into Shorty:-)

Hi Gerry ~ Breathtaking! I can see how people become hooked on that wide expanse of sky - we just don't have that around here.  It's really mesmerizing.

Konnie,

This is the effect I was hoping for.   Now, I hope you know who to call if you want a new place to call home or a vacation home.  :)

Liz,

There is something about getting a marvelous view of the sky without anything high buildings blocking it.  The fact that there are not many lights on the streets here ensures that you can not help but notice the beauty of the sky at night.  I especially like to do some star gazing on a clear night.  Everyone that comes here for a visit is amazed by how much stars they see in the sky (the stars have always been there but I guess you just notice it more here at night because there are less distractions and obstructions at night).

Hi Gerry - Very nice night sky in Red Lodge.  I have six minutes to post eight comments - just got back from the Ex and it has been pouring for the past hour.

Marc,

You seem to be have much more rain than usual in Toronto.  I hope you had a fun night at the CNE before it started to pour.  I believe you must be addicted to AR.  I sometimes get my 10 comments in and sometimes I don't.   The addiction comes and goes.  I will admit that I do like the 100 points just for logging in every day. :)

Margaret,

Thank you.  Breathtaking is the word I used as well. In person, it makes also sense because you are breathing a lot of fresh air while you are admiring this view.  :)

Gerry,

I really like the scene and the colors. The moon almost looks like its caught up in the cloud. :)
