(Can anyone please tell me why there are cameras at street intersections)?

Now before you make a quick comment you need to read the post!

There are Cameras on top of street lights like this photograph above and there are sensors that look like cameras for emergency vehicles. This camera above is (not) a sensor for emergency vehicles.

These cameras that you see all over major cities across the world are used for (News Channels) and to (Watch You) and keep track of vehicles by license plate numbers, etc.

These cameras are fed into a huge computer system that tracks vehicles, why?

The daughter of a very close friend of mine was in a very bad accident at a major intersection with one of these cameras on top of the street light. After the accident my friend and his daughter contacted the city and state to try and get video of the intersection. The authorities connected to the cameras told them there was no footage, really why not?

In the very near future these cameras will be used for traffic tickets for no seat belts, running red lights, etc., and the state will mail your tickets in the mail.

If any of you are familiar with the book and movie "1984" - Big Brother - you know that the government has been and will continue to watch us, monitor us and continue to take more and more of our freedom away.

(Here is a link to the movie "1984" and it is very strange and creepy!

 http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5464625623984168940&ei=KYuYSv3nAqbmqQLng4WTAQ&q=1984+george+orwell&hl=en

Why don't we let the government put these cameras in our homes, computer chips under our skin, tattoo serial numbers on our skin for identification, etc.

With all the technology out there, we have GPS systems in our cars, cell phones, computer IP numbers, and so much more.

Why is the government watching us so closely? To help fight crime! (Please), the government encourages crime to keep law enforcement and officials working, no crime = no jobs!

No crime = less working judges, attorneys, etc.

The world of crime is big business, that our governments will continue to want and encourage through the (Media), television news, news papers, magazines, movies, etc.

Here are a few other types of cameras (below) that are used for surveillance purposes and just plain (watching you)!

The bubble camera used all over Las Vegas and other major cities and (below) is one of the older types used for (watching you)!

Some people feel safe when they see these cameras around thinking there used to help fight crime. These cameras are fed into "The Beast" the mother computer in Germany.

This mother computer in Germany stores data from around the world from many different governments that are preparing themselves for "NEW WORLD ORDER"

"New World Order" is one huge Government that controls the World!

I am not paranoid about being (watched) because I am doing something wrong, I just don't like the idea of all these cameras around.

Why don't we put cameras in the government buildings everywhere so we can monitor our government officials?

Robert,

It's my understanding that the camera like the one at the top of your post is used to determine the amount of traffic waiting for the light, instead of sensors embedded into the road. They do not really record anything. They're just used to control the traffic lights.

There are plenty of other cameras, especially in urban areas that do record though. I'm not paranoid but I do assume that I'm on a camera somewhere when I'm outside.

Interesting because 1984 was just on TV tonight.

I have no problem with a ticket showing up in the mail if I or anyone is stupid enough to run a red light.  And I always assume big brother is watching... I'm just careful what I do and say.

Robert,

We've got the all over our city. I contacted the the office of our city manage about the a couple of years ago and he gave me a smiliar response to your first one above.

As for: "In the very near future these cameras will be used for traffic tickets for no seat belts, running red lights, etc., and the state will mail your tickets in the mail." Yes, it's happening now and it's pretty difficult to dispute when they show you a photo with your license plate on the car and a light that's red.

Bob, this is a scary situation, just look at what Google Earth shows and you can imagine if they let the public see that much the Government is seeing even more, probably even hearing our conversations.

I just read something today about Jay Rockefeller (Senator or Congressman?) is working on a bill that would give the executive branch the power to control the internet in case of a "national crisis". Put that together with all the cameras and other surveillance methods and you do, indeed have the makings of a horror movie.

Tammy - Thanks for the stop and comment!

Al & Peggy - Yes indeed, I think technology is going to be the downfall of our race!

Pat - I couldn't agree with you more and I think this bill is just another reason for us to lose more of our freedom!

Robert, I agree with if they wish to collect money for a ticket then they should be paying an officer to catch you doing something wrong and have them write you for it.  I do not agree with the camera ticket!

Tony & Darcy - Don't we pay for enough around this country? I don't work as hard as I do so I can pay high taxes and the state for a traffic ticket because our government is greedy!

Worse than the cameras -- which require you to drive by before they can "see" you --

is the plan proposed here in Oregon (and elsewhere) to use a gps unit in all cars to determine how many miles (and where) you drive for the purpose of sticking you for a mileage tax to replace the gas tax.  The gas tax is declining (per road mile traveled) as vehicles get more fuel efficient.

The road builders and the environmental lobby are ready to support it.

I am not.

We have several locations where you get ticketed for speeding via the cameras and mobile units that are parked along the interstate snapping pics as well. Nothing like a little invasion of privacy...

Robert, Many years ago they had vans snapping pictures in Ontario.  A few tickets arrived at home and the female in the front seat was not the "little missus"!!!!  The vans did not last long.

They recently installed intersection lights in Naples  supposedly to catch drivers running red lights.  By the way, nice house you have. LOL

it is true, the cameras are everywhere....

but you can not get a tape if you need too~ I got that too! My car was hit&run by a track. The police said that they will get a tape from a camera, but they never did..

Hello Inna and thanks for the visit and comment. Yes these cameras are used for tracking cars by license plates and feed into a HUGE computer system.

They are watching our every movement from our cars, phones, computers at home and more. I personally think it's an invasion of privacy!

Actually this camera is the latest in traffic detection. Some systems are linked to a traffic management center via fiber optic and some systems are independent. These cameras cannot read license plates, the video output is not that clear. However, the systems that are linked to a TMC are monitored by traffic engineers to help alleviate congestion by extending green light intervals on the fly. The older systems to detected traffic (loops) are very slowly getting phased out. Loop detectors need to be cut into the ground to be installed which can lead to traffic jams during construction. Say the road needs to get shifted in the future the loops will have to be relocated, unlike the video detection which a traffic engineer on a computer can just redraw the detection zones. Some systems out there are Iteris, and Peek Traffic just to name a few.

Hello David and you really know your business when it comes to these cameras. Thanks much for stopping by with your comment ...

With that being said I do believe BIG Brother is still watching us everywhere we go.
