Homeowners nationwide are discovering the latest way to market homes without using a REALTOR, and it is not with a FSBO website, nor a discount broker -- a can of spray paint is all it takes, for some!

While spray-painting your house with the words, "House For Sale" may catch the eye of passing motorists, in my opinion it is not likely to attract the type of serious, qualified home buyers that you want to attract.

By working with a full-service Realtor, you will get a professional marketing campaign that will showcase your home to the right pool of buyers.

If you want to sell your home for the best price the market will bear, within your preferred timeframe, contact a your local REALTOR today.

That is the way they market Foreclosed on houses in some area's isn't it.  yuk, that home owner should be shot for stupidity before he/she breeds.

That's great! Priceless, $2.99 can of spray paint and SOLD!  People are nutz. It gave me a good chuckle this morning, thanks for sharing.

Works for me... Maybe they can let the grass grow too... give it the real desperation look....

Wow!  I don't think all sellers know what our commission includes.  Marketing the property, bringing qualified buyers to the property, coordinating showings, handling contracts, coordinating inspections and appraisals, handling titlework, helping clear title, and coordinating closing.  Thanks for the post.

I think that this is a great way to not get any buyers.  Who wants to buy that and then try to get that paint off? :)

06/12/2007 10:05 AM by Jim & Maria Hart ~ Charleston, SC Real Estate (Agent Owned Realty)

I'll bet the new "paint" raised the price of this home. They probably have buyers lined up, too.

That just shows how much they know...they forgot to spray paint their phone number to field ALL the calls!

Rich--If a picture says a thousand words that one says four: "Hire a professional Realtor!"

ON BRICK?!!  Oooohhh nooooooo.  Breaks my heart.  They should have just called Rich!!

I personally applaud this person for an Out of the Box attitude!

Wow Rich,

How can a seller think serious buyer's would appreciate that kind of advertising?

Smooooooooooooooooooth Rich.  I like that self plug you wrote!  :)  Just kidding. I actually saw this picture recently, and I was pretty impressed with the lack of thought put into the long term.  When someone does want to buy it and wants the paint removed, is that going to be a fun job to do?

I didn't think so.

My brother found a good one for me in his town....guess they expired or were tired of their agent and wanted to go another route.....

Thanks everyone, for the comments.

Jim, that is just sad...that is about the best word I can think of.  Sad.

Well, as dumb as the seller must be, it is good for a giggle.  I think Teri Eckholm's comment sums it up perfectly.  Thanks Rich.

It looks like somebody watched 20/20 and decided to take their advice... Sell your home without an agent.

06/23/2007 04:41 PM by Galel Fajardo (Coast Mortgage Group)

Nice Picture. A little more insulting has been some FSBO's in Miami who want to offer $2k to sell thier home. They are still living in the past, 2003. Also, I have also found realtors trying to sell thier properties for less than 2 %  and have the nerve to still call themselves realtors.

06/26/2007 02:28 AM by jaime Costa (Charles Ruttenberg)

Jaime Costa -- I have o problem with Realtors charging whatever rate they feel is reasonable to market a property.  What I do have problems with is when they lead consumers to think that they will market the property fully at that price.   I did a piece titled "A REALTOR's Worth" a while ago, if you want to read more opinions on that topic.

06/26/2007 07:03 AM by Rich Schiffer, REALTOR, e-PRO (Weichert, Realtors)

Do the sellers expect people to knock on the door whenever they are in the area ? Looks like this house will be fo sale for ever. Even if someone ends up buying it.

I am going to read your post A Realtors Worth.

06/27/2007 06:12 AM by GITA BANTWAL, REALTOR BUCKS COUNTY, PA HOMES (ReMax Centre Realtors)

I can't begin to imagine what sellers expect when they do things like that.  What will they do when it is sold?  Spray "SOLD" over top of it?

06/27/2007 06:55 AM by Rich Schiffer, REALTOR, e-PRO (Weichert, Realtors)

Wouldn't it be sad if this was a case of vandalism? We're cracking on these people for a while and they're at home wondering what they did to tick off a neighbor?

06/27/2007 10:15 AM by Jim Ludes Grundy/Will County, IL REALTOR (Century 21 Coleman-Hornsby)

Jim -- good point -- I wonder if their car got spray painted with "Car For Sale" too?

I was just thinking...assuming this is an actual attempt to sell a house...what would they do if they had to sell a can of spray paint,? -- Would they spray paint the side of the can, "Paint for Sale?"

06/27/2007 12:17 PM by Rich Schiffer, REALTOR, e-PRO (Weichert, Realtors)

I laughed out loud when I saw the picture of this house. Too funny! Thanks for sharing

09/15/2007 06:19 AM by Rich Schiffer, REALTOR, e-PRO (Weichert, Realtors)

I loved this.  Love it for the humor!  Also believe it or not there was a huge sign in a home ...on paper NOT the walls which said, "Make an offer" .  Buyer looked at her agent, said lets make an offer on this condo and see if they'll take it, and guess what?  They did take it.  Signed contract!!

This was too funny!
