Some Unsual Plumbing Installations And Two Potential Dangerous Situation

I have not posted anything on my blog for some time now. It has been hard to get some free time to write blog posts. Anyway enough about not having a enough time and lets look at some unsual plumbing and two potential dangerous situation I found during home inspections. Here take a look at these pictures and you will see some unsual plumbing installations.

Someone decided to plug up the pressure relief valve on this hot water heater. By doing this to the hot water heater the pressure can build up and it could blow up or fly though the roof like a rocket.

Duct is open and can let Carbon Monoxide into the living space, and hot water heater is on its last leg!

Duct tape sure not be used on HVAC ducts.

Wow - that is some scary stuff.

That flex drain material should be banned.

Think the plumber had a sip or two before doing that one.

Looks like a rehab job.

And they think at times that we are to picky!

All of these repairs were done by unqualified and unlicense contractors that did not get the necessary work permits to do these repairs.

Oh so common, see it all the time.

You are right it has become all to common with the big box stores selling how to books that make people think they know how to make repairs as good as license contractors.

Good pictures Frank. Duct tape not to be used on ducts? Wan't that its' original intended purpose?

It was originally used to seal ammunition cases. It is a strong, waterproof, pressure sensitive tape. We used in the military to plug holes in planes and called it "500 mile an hour tape". It came to be duct tape during the housing boom after the war but as we now know it is not good for that, never was but I guess at the time it worked good enough. Since the name has not changed people still think it ducts are a good place to put it.
