- San Diego is under a Level II Drought Alert.
- All of the water districts here have encouraged us to conserve water for the common good.
- We can't wash our cars in our own driveways.
- Water fountains have to be shut down unless they use recycled water.
- We are supposed to take shorter showers.
- We are supposed to use common sense in how we use water -- fill the dishwasher full of dishes and wash a load of clothes.
"If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down."
- CalTrans still waters the freeway landscaping at 1:00 in the afternoon, even if it's 97° outside.
- We are supposed to rat on our neighbors if they water too often, wash their cars, have a water leak on their property, etc. Can we rat on CalTrans for not using common sense?
- Water use in June 2009 dropped by 21% and 16% in July, year over year.
- All of the water districts are currently holding public meetings to discuss raising water rates because "revenue is down because water use is down."
Is anyone else having a Duh! moment here?
I'm reminded of that television commercial where a guy goes into a fast food restaurant and orders a bunch of greasy food. The counter clerk asks him if he wants heartburn now or later.
Same thing here. Do you want an increase in water rates now or later?

Your post reminds me of all the new landscaping projects in highway median in the city of Walnut Creek. They're planting trees, flowers and shrubs in the middle of the highway....and adding irrigation systems where they do not now exist.
