Things I don't understand: Sunday musings

If you leave a comment, Jim will visit your blog and comment.Occasionally my mind wanders and then starts wondering:

  1. Remember when a standing ovation meant that one had done an extraordinarily superb job? Now Michael Vick gets a standing ovation from 50,000 people at his first professional football game after getting out of prison for financing a large dog-fighting ring involving over 50 dogs.
  2. What did people do before toilet paper was invented in 1857?
  3. Why is hunting considered a sport? Doesn't a sport involve something physical, something more than exercising one's finger on the trigger?
  4. Why is bullfighting illegal in the United States, yet just a few hundred feet across the border it's one of the most popular sports in Mexico? And getting back to #3, is bullfighting a sport? Did you know that the first, last, and only bullfighting in America took place in 1880 in New York City. The public was outraged at such cruelty to animals that bullfighting was quickly outlawed.
  5. How come ten years ago the college football gods declared that a football playoff would make the season too long by adding an extra week to the season? Now they have added two weeks by starting earlier and having the "National Championship Game" not on January 1, but almost a week later.
  6. The best jumbo shrimp I've ever eaten were at King's Inn in Riviera, Texas. But isn't "jumbo shrimp" an oxymoron, or am I the moron?
  7. Why didn't my mom tell me about Thomas Edison and Mark Twain? Neither of them completed grade school!
  8. At what point does a pond become a lake, a lake become a sea, and a sea become an ocean? The Caspian Sea is the world's largest lake, with Lake Superior (Superior Sea?) coming in second.

You have some very good points to ponder there Jim.  But, at the end of the day, I figure it really doesn't matter.  It will just drive you nuts.  lol

Hi Jim, now you got me thinking about number 2! As to number 7, she did that on purpose! :-)

At least no one answered number six by saying that I was a moron -- LOL.

Hey, Jean - I know it doesn't matter at the end of the day, and it absolutely does drive me nuts. Sometimes, though, in this nutty world of ours, it's kind of fun to be nutty with everyone else. Just don't tell my mom that I'm being nutty, as if she doesn't already know -- LOL.

Hey, Silvia - Everytime I think about #2, I wonder about the cowboys of the wild, wild west, not to mention the lovely young ladies. Something just doesnt' sound right about all of that. Maybe fig leaves.... I'm going to stop there since I haven't eaten yet -- LOL.
