Players in the United States Open Tennis Championships, which begin tomorrow in New York City, have been warned not to be Twits by tweeting inappropriately on Twitter.

Apparently, Twitter Warnings signs from the Tennis Integrity Unit have been posted in the players' lounge, locker rooms, and referee's office at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Can you believe that "Twitter messages could violate the sport's anti-corruption rules"? Huh?

Andy RoddickAndy Roddick, who is known to be somewhat outspoken, tweeted in response to the warning:

"[It's] lame the US Open is trying to regulate our tweeting.... I understand the on-court issue but not sure they can tell us if we can't do it on our own time ... we'll see."

Continuing his outspokenness:

"I definitely respect the rule about inside info and on the court, but you would seriously have to be a moron to send 'inside info' through a tweet."

Ya just gotta love Andy Roddick. He likes to tell it like it is.

Keep up with all the news at the official U.S. Open web site, and you can watch many of the matches on television from your own Mission Valley condo right here in San Diego, California.

Jim,

I fid twitting to be rather confusing and I have a lot of difficult understanding how it can really work successfully in business.

How can a sports authority tell people they don't have free speech rights? I think the ACLU will get in on this one.

How funny that they think they really can police something like this.  I mean, how can you possibly?  Next you'll have sports agencies saying you can't tweet about basketball games or football games.  Crazy!

Hey, Joan - Just finished watching Venus Williams. Andy Roddick is up next.

Hey, Brian - I think anything can work in business if one is persistent and consistent in using it. The problem in today's world is that too many people spread themselves too thin. They spend so much time tweeting, Playing in the Rain, Facebooking, MySpacing, Linking in, Merchanting their Circle, etc., that they forget they are actually supposed to be in business. Eventually their businesses fail because they forget about that. Social networking is fun, but like any addiction, it can be taken to the extreme.

Hey, Todd - And if anyone were to test the Tennis Integrity Unit, Andy Roddick would be the one to hook up with the ACLU.

Hey, Renae - Unfortunately, it's already happening. A Charger player got fined $25,000 for tweeting that the food at the Chargers practice camps was abysmal. Eventually someone's going to test the system with a good headline-making lawsuit.

Jim, I am just amazed how every one is trying to erode our freedom, from politicians to business people. As far as I am concerned I understand if you work for a Covert Organization yes they should restrict you, but Tennis, give me a break:)LOL

I have to agree with Roddick - you'd have to be a twit to tweet inside information on Twitter!
