Chula Vista Little League wins World Series

Chula Vista's Park View All-Stars were crowned Champions of the Little League World Series held in Williamsport, PA. Chula Vista welcomed home last night  the Park View team and thousands were hand to greet the new celebrities. The City of Chula Vista is planning a celebrity parade on Friday. And guess who the celebrities are? The Chula Vista All-Stars and every single player is just that. Celebrities.

The 20 or so team members who began their quest to the title a little over 3 weeks ago were nearly perfect in losing only one game in the whole series. Saturday they won the US Championship and played Taiwan on Sunday to win the whole "shootin" match.

This is the 2nd time a San Diego Little League team has won the title but it had not been since 1961 when a team from the combined areas of El Cajon and La Mesa brought the title home from Williamsport. 48 years is a long time ago but when it comes to little league, people still talk about it and that special someday when the title would return.  They won’t have to wait any longer, the title is here now, the team has returned home and the World Series banner will be proudly on display during the Parade of Champions on Friday.

The Chula Vista Park View All-Stars are truly  role models for young generations in all parts of the world that support this character building sport called Little League. The All-Stars, besides winning the World Series title also set a new  world record. Nineteen Home runs in 5 games. Pretty amazing.

And for those that don’t already know this, there is no local, state or federal funding for Little League. Each team has local sponsors that help to pay for their shirts and the rest is funded by families and fund raising events. This is a local grass roots enterprise that relies on very local participation of community builders and leaders for support. And in return for their support, they are assured of the marvelous character building of the players that the Little League enterprise brings forth through the many decades of character building since its inception. No one could dispute that this is a pretty good trade off of value.

Congratulations to the Home Team, The Chula Vista All -Stars.

Hi Gary, Thanks for dropping over, I would never have expected this post to be featured but these kids are so amazing and I surely hope this post will bring them even more attention. They have such positive attitudes and frankly they serve up a lot of pride for this area. I have been so impressed with their can do attitude while never once being braggarts. They will  serve as wonderful ambassadors.

What an incredible story! I kept up with this watching snippets of the story on ESPN. I have been ahuge fan of little league since our son played during his younger years!

I watched them play and they are impressive.  It is great for those kids, they will never forget the experience.  Good for you for posting it, we need to take time to celebrate everything, not just our personal success.

Hi Lenn, Thank you so much for coming by. The Little League enterprise is so wonderfully served once again and this team is a real standout. We are all so proud of them and what they have accomplished for themselves as well as the community.

Hi Russell, Over the years from the time I was a kid, the Little league is an American institution. What impresses me as an adult is they have a great set of standards and their support is totally by enthusiastic locals.  Playing well was subjective but playing with pride is a given. This is indeed one of Americas finest institutions and it requires no government intervention to make it work. It is driven by enthusiasm.

Hi Kyle, You are so right, they are a great bunch and they have have this achievement to talk about for the rest of their lives. It would be an easy bet that their own children will follow in their footsteps. And they will be mighty big shoes to fill.

Super..little league is the essense of a community spirit. Way to put their area on the map in a big way. We've sponsored a local little league team since 1983 and are proud of each and every team, win or lose. Have an expense account at the local dairy bar and everyone gets ice cream, including the coaches. I'd erase the ugly racial comments/slurs though...that loses the victory of hard work, practices, travel and team work.

Hi Teri, It was bedlam last night as the new Champions arrived. Who wouldn't be proud of their accomplishment. With all the areas in life that can be difficult or challenging, it is certainly wonderful that these kids brought home a prize that clearly demonstrated that the work and team ethic is alive and well. We are all very proud of them and I can only imagine the joy and confidence the team members will cherish their whole lives. Thanks to your husband and son and people all around the world, they keep the spirit of Little League thriving. It is wonderful to be a fan of something that is so wholesome and truly character building. Win or lose, all the players on every team win and win big.

I watched this with my 13 year old son, who is an avid hockey player. I got tears in my eyes for both teams and their acccomplishments and how proud they must have been.

I watched those last two games and couldn't help remembering my youth.  What "The Blue Bombers" did was an amazing feat and a source of pride for all San Diegans Californians Americans.  They battled back from deficits, got the bats moving, and did it all with aplomb and class. A great life lesson to remember; it ain't over until it's over.

Three cheers for the Blue Bombers of Park View Little League; hometown heroes of San Diego !

As a "San Antonian"  I have to be a little sad that our boys lost to your boys in the US finals but that being said...I had so much fun watching these young-uns play hard and have fun while doing it.  Our SanAntonio team came home last night to a huge city-wide celebration and will be given a parade on our riverwalk on Sunday.  There has been so much positive reaction to the series and IMHO all the teams played with dignity and honor.  Congrats to your Chula Vista team and all the teams in the LLWS!! :)

I saw most of their games, and their composure was impressive. Great fundamentals plus some big bats brought the championship home to San Diego. I was also very impressed by the disposition of the team from Chinese Taipei. They showed great class and respect in what must have been a very disappointing moment.

Hooray for them!  Some of those kids are almost pros the way they can play - very exciting to watch!  I'll bet that some of them do wind up as Major-Leaguers.

William -

Congratulations for doing this post.  I swung by Chula Vista's AR/Localism Page this morning, and was shocked when I couldn't find a single post on the team - my immediate thought was, lots of agents from CV seem to have missed a golden opportunity to get lots of eyes on their posts over the past 2 months, given that they began District-level All Star play around July 1, and have been turning heads at every stop along the way.

Opps, this response is out of order. I will catch up soon. Hi Jeff, I was a bit shocked at that as well. I don't know if this post made it the localism section of Chula Vista, but I surely hope it did.

Hi Kristi, I could feel your sincerity in that comment and these kids are all worthy of those feelings. There is no doubt about it and that is BTW, all the kids in Little League. I have wondered sometimes how many of our great major players, played as kids. That would be a very worthy investigation that could interesting either way.

Hi Diane, I always wondered in the Major League World Series, if our national teams would be that pumped up to predicate the WS of baseball in a multi national forum. I can declare in total certainty that Chula Vista and San Diego communities are pumped!

My grandfather coached a team to the Little League World Series in 1953 (they didn't win).  My uncle was on the team and my dad was the bat boy.  So I always pay attention this time of year.

Congrats to Chula Vista!

I love basball but sometimes the big leaguers give me fits with their all about me attitude. To see young boys pull together as a team reminds you of the power of going beyond one.

I watched the game and was very impressed with the level of play.  The double play late in the game when China Taipei had the bases loaded should have made a sports show's top 10 list!  I'm thrilled for the kids and for the U.S.A.
