My 2010 New Year's Resolution is to weigh less than  200 lbs by January 1, 2010!

I just got back from Keller Williams Mega Camp in Austin, Texas where there were some amazing and inspirational sessions featuring Liz Murray, a young lady who went from homeless on the street and subways of New York City to graduate from Harvard University and Nick Vujicic, a man who has excelled in living a great life, despite being born without arms and legs!

Both of these very heart-felt and motivating people were there to eliminate my excuses and limiting beliefs.

First, a bit of background.  I just turned 51 a couple of months ago.  At 43, I had an angioplasty as one of my arteries was completely blocked.  (They thought that they were going to have to do bypass surgury but wanted to try angio first and I got lucky.)  Despite that luck and having a wonderful family to love and support, I have watched the numbers on the scale climb over the years, finally hitting 230.4 lbs as of Monday morning.

One particular thing that Liz Murray said struck a very loud and clear note with me.  She described having to get up before the break of dawn and having to carefully crawl across the bodies of drunk and drugged friends to get out the door to go to school.  She talked about the decision you have to make when your hand hits the doorknob and you either open the door and move forward or succumb to what's easy and go back and lie down on the floor.

When she described this I saw my hand, but it wasn't on a regular doorknob.  It was on the refrigerator door.  Contrary to Liz's challenge, it's a door that I have been opening far too often.  I've been making the easy choice - the comfortable choice.

Thanks Liz, for sharing your courage and committment with me.

I have 120 days to drop 30.4 pounds.  I am posting my progress on my Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter each day for accountability.

Thanks Liz.  I believe that you have changed my life.  Nothing could impact my life in a more positive way than losing this excess weight.  Your story shamed me into losing my excuses.

Rick good luck with your goal. I feel your pain as I am trying to get down to 225 from my highest ever weight of 310 last Christmas. So far I have lost 42 lbs but it is a struggle to walk past that refrigerator sometimes!

Facebook is marvelous!  It's a great way to "meet" and network with other professionals and stay connected with your clients.  You can even find long-lost friends and relatives and stay connected with the family.  I even have a group of Sergisons from around the world, because my surname is so uncommon.

Welcome to the club!

It's amazing where our inspiration can come from.  Stepping out of our comfort zone can lead to great things.  Wishing you success with your "early" New Years Resolution.

Hi Rick, I"m in. It's funny I should read this today as I decided yesterday enough was enough.  I have been lax about getting to the gym over the summer and I must say blogging has added the pounds.

Dan, congratulations on your loss.  Weight loss that is. I'm heading over to your Facebook group now.

Welcome to the Club!  When I was away at KW MegaCamp at the end of August, I heard a very inspirational young lady by the name of Liz Murray who went from homeless to graduating from Harvard University.  She tallked about choices, and committment and excuses.  She was awesome.  (They made a movie about her overcoming her challenges a couple years ago called "From Homeless to Harvard").  I figured that if she could go through what she went through to overcome, then I had NO excuses.

I've never believed in New Years resolutions and (up until Jan 1, 2010) New year's Day has always been a stupid Holiday to me.  Why make promises that you make each year because you changed the calendar, when most the time, you're not going to keep them anyway.  I used to say that the only New Year's resolution that I ever kept was the one that I wasn't going to make any more NY's resolutions!  Now as a "goal date" it has meaning!

Good luck, but with motivation, you won't need luck.

I could have written what you wrote in your comment:
