Twitter help, What is the difference # and @

I am new to twitter (@andrew_monaghan) and am learning more by the day, can anybody tell me the difference between the use of the @ Symbol and the # symbol.

Any assistance ig greatly appreciated, this appears to be a great new technology but its still a steep learning curve for me

Since no one else has responded, I'll give you my best guess. The @ is for people to people, and the # is for groups. There are groups that people belong to and instead of always putting in those names, I believe you can use the # and the message goes to everyone in the group.

Yes, and if you see RT @username that means "re-tweet". Basically like a re-blog, giving credit to the original writer.

Andrew - Great question. I didn't know that you could even send tweets to groups, or even set up groups. Now I have to figure out how to do that.

Wow! You truly learn something everyday. I've been tweeting for several months but never came across any issue with @ or #??? Now, I'm going to hve to go log in and see what everyone is talking about?
