OMG! My Site Has Been Hacked!! A Tale of Horror

There are few things that scare a Real Estate Blogger; having their site hacked ranks right up there.    Apparently, I have some good company as an Internet Expert had their site hacked recently.  My Buffalo Real Estate Blog is my business, and it has been compromised.

Nightmare on Elm Street

Two weeks ago a call from a client alerted me that the Buffalo Real Estate Blog was being redirected to a movie site-one about horror movies.   A quick call to my web host, they were able to resolve the issue and correct the situation.  The Blog was clearly hacked and now secured by password changes.   Back to business rather easily, but there was something luring beneath the surface.

My host and my computer are well protected. I tried a couple times to allow comments and questions to be permitted. Between bots, ads, and inappropriate remarks that sadly cannot be permitted.

That's a little scary. I never understand why people would do that. I guess I'm naive.

You know, it really is scary out there.  Hackers, whoever (they) are, seem to be stealth.  They just sneak into our lives without being noticed and can totally ruin you if you don't catch them in time.  I try to be pretty much over protective, but I am not sure you can be 100%.

Colleen, that is really scary.  I get a lot of rude comments on my blogs and I have to delete them regularly, I don't want people getting the wrong idea.  In this cyber age we have to be so vigilant.

I thought I was being secure, with my blog password, hosting password and FTP all being different and being long with a combination of Letters and Numbers...    It is not enough.   You have to have a plan of action to ensure that you can correct the situation completely.

All comments on my site go into moderation before they go up on my site.   I delete more than I allow.

Colleen - I must say that was a nightmare, glad you were able to resolve some of issues.  Love the advice you gave to us fellow Bloggers; prevention is always a better way to go.

I got so sick of Wordpress and the problems I was having with hackers and thieves, I finally stopped using it when they appeared not to care and said it was my problem.

Colleen ~ that's awful.  Some people just have too much time on their hands. Hackers are scarey, you never know what kind of personal information they will be getting from you.

Colleen--How Frustrating! All your hardwork and some hacker tries to take advantage of your traffic...not that many people wanting to buy a Buffalo home would be interested in a horror film or would they? (Am I missing something about your area?--lol).

Colleen, I had this happen to me.  It really made me angry at the time... never did find out who did it.
