If you live in the Hudson Valley area or are visiting here this Labor Day Weekend and love history you should come by Museum Village in Monroe NY , (1010 Route 17M, Monroe, NY) for the Civil War Weekend which will be open to the public from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM Saturday, and 10:00 AM -4:00 PM on Sunday.   This event has Union and Confederate troop encampments, reenactments of military battles both days, Civil War Era Sutlers (merchants selling quilts, antiques, reproduction clothing and accessories, and other Civil War related items), and many special presentations.  The weatherman is predicting a wonderful weekend so come on out.

Here are some pictures from last year's event:

Paddy,

Thanks for sharing this information!  As a former US History teacher I truly appreciate people becoming involved and sharing our past heritage with future generations.  It is very important for our youth to experience the past firsthand.

We have a historical celebration in Lafayette, Indiana(Tippecanoe County) called "The Feast of the Hunter's Moon"; it recreates the meeting of the French, English, and Native Americans in the Wabash River Valley in the 1700's.  It draws around 30,000 to 60,000 people on an October weekend.

Thanks for posting this, you have now given me an idea for a future blog!!!!

Hope you have great weather.

Paddy, I am a Civil War buff myself. The local reenactment of the Battle of Franklin lost a lot of enthusiasm when the Mayor of Franklin, thought it was politically incorrect to have the Confederate battle flag in the reenactments. For Pete's sake, it is a part of history. None the less it was banned much to the out-cry of the community. How sad...

Paddy - sounds like a wonderful time coming this weekend. I have yet to see a re-enactment but it certainly is on my list of things to be doing.

I know some diehard cival war buffs that go and re-enact these every year. I think it is great to remember, great to learn, and great to be a part of.

Goodness, Paddy, you reminded me we have something very similar here as well!  I love it and I would have missed it.  Thanks so much for the reminder, I have such a good time at these events.

I would love to bring my son to this.  I wish they had more reenactments in the summer.  I guess the heat would get to the actors

It is fun to do announcements of local events.  I like to promote the reenactments because we are involved but I promote all sorts of local events Bruce

That is a total shame Michael.  What happened happened and it is valuable to look at history.

It is important Steve.  Hope you have a great weekend.

Be sure to stop by if you come up Carole.  That would be a blast!

This year it was more than the heat Shelton.  The economy takes a toll on us.  We all pay for our own supplies, heck we even pay to participate in the events.
