"Like a Norman Rockwell..." "You must be the Brady Bunch..." "The Ford's with their entourage..." "Is that a day care you have there?"

I woke up this morning thinking back over the last 38 years. Today is my 38th wedding anniversary.

I'm really lucky. Steve and I happened to meet when we were still teenagers. What luck our paths crossed. I knew I wanted to marry him almost right away. It took Steve a little longer. But he came around pretty fast. :)

This is a picture of us with our four daughters. We'd been married about 9 years here. No one was asking me if the girls were my little sisters much anymore but I was asked quite a bit if I owned a day care!

It has been a journey, the last 38 years and I wouldn't change a thing. Why would I? They have been the luckiest and happiest 38 years anyone could ask for.

I'm looking forward to a whole lot more too.

Your Friend, Kate Ford

Happiest congrats!  And here I thought I was the only one who thought it would last.  It's good that you did too!

Lucky you - almost no one gets married when they are 5 anymore.

Very kindly,

Thank you Croakster. When one olderst daughter started jr hi, she burst in the door after school and announced, "Mom! You and Dad beat the odds for teenage marriages." Apparently they had been going over it in a class.

Today another daughter put on Facebook, "Thanks mom and dad for teaching us about commitment." Can't get ANY better than that. :)

Dan, How very nice of you! Maybe the Irish genes! You look like a very wise man. I am sure you know not to listen to Nutsy who is a walking furball of confusion. Thanks for dropping in. I appreciate your well-wishes. Kate

Suesan, thank you so much. I accept your wishes with gratitude. My youngest called on her way home from work today and said the funniest thing. "Mom, 38 years! That is older than me!" Then we both laughed. And yes, many more anniversaries to come, for you too! Thanks, Sue.  Kate

Mrs Kate,

Best of luck to you. I am thinking that, to celebrate, maybe I should come live at your house for a few days, weeks or months. Your choice.

Kate,

Congratulations. This year coming up my wife will have put up with me for 35 years.

And, we have 5 kids, so I very much understand.

You didn't mention grandchildren, but I'm going to assume that they can't really be too far away.

All the best.

Brian, Since you asked! :) Five grandchildren already, plus pending twins I call the duplex and two pending singles that I call the SFRs on their way. Total of nine by spring.

Congratulations on 35 years. We should form a group: Married Over 30 Years! How about your grandchildren status?

Mrs Kate,

if I could live at your home for a week, in transit to rescue Mr James from Chuckie, I would cook for you.

I am trying to solve the mystery of why you have such pent-up rage. I have yet to figure it out but if anyone can figure it out it would be Nutsy

Congratulations on your anniversary!  When I first saw the post, I went back to look at your picture and thought you must have written about someone else's 38th anniversary.  You look like you're in your 30's.  What a wonderful family.  Enjoyed the comments from your daughters and another congrats on the grandkids.  I'll bet your family get-togethers are a blast.  Many blessings.

OMG: I got married in 1972. Still married to the same guy and love him to pieces.

When I tell someone how long I have been married their jaws always drop.

Like I am some sort of freak!!!!! LOL

What beautiful girls. Trying to figure out how many redheads you got.

Hi Susan, the pic is from our backyard just as our weather warmed up this spring. (But just between you and me, we took a bunch and I threw out a lot.... :) Thank you for your well wishes. We are thankful for our family and love our noisy get togethers. Kate

Hi Janet, would you believe the oldest is still a natural light blonde, the 2nd and 4th are dark blonde and the 3rd is medium brown like her dad. None of them got my red hair or my excess freckles. Thankfully they all tan like my husband and don't burn/blister/peel like I would if not for sunscreen.

But one of our granddaughters has my red hair. Red heads are on both sides of the family so I have to share the success for that. :)

Congratulations on your marriage. It is rare. I said we need a group here for married over 30 years. :) I guess in 2 years I could start over one for over 40 years... WOW! How is that possible? Kate

Wow 38 years is almost unheard of these days. Congratulations. I had my 10th anniversary this year. Got a long way to go for 38. Lets see I will be 74 on my 38th anniversary. I would have to agree with everyone you look mighty young to be celebrating a 38th anniversary.

Thanks James. I could post a pic of me at 4 am and you might change your mind. :) Congratulations on 10 years. We told our daughters when they were approaching their teen years that we never regretted getting married as young as we were however we would not recommend it to them or anyone else. We realize we beat the odds.  Kate

PS Our daughters listened too. They are all four married now but waited until they were older than we were.

Mrs Kate,

A cap covers one's ears. Do you have no understanding of standard clothing. They are folded under you silly and evil woman. At least when Mr Charles trusses me up,  I get to escape.
