it sounds interesting but must I think it would be tedious work.  I studied French for years but couldn't begin to hold a conversation in that language.  I admire people that can speak more than one language.

Hey, Ann - I tried converting from English to Spanish using some Spanish that I know, and it seemed to do a very good job going from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English. I had fun playing around with it with some of the other languages to see what the characters were like. Whether or not it translated correctly I haven't a clue.

Hey, Jane - So you have direct experience with it. Great! My marketing guru has always wanted to learn Spanish. Maybe I'll send him up to you to this site. We didn't have to take a foreign language when I was in school, so, of course, I didn't. I spent all my time practicing the piano. I did pick up some Spanish from friends, though, but usually nothing that can be printed in a family site like ActiveRain -- LOL.

Jim, I'll have to look into that, I've never heard of it.  Pig Latin is the only language aside from English I don't need help in :)  Thanks for the info.

I have some experience with the free translations, and you really have to be careful -- there are lots of colloquialisms and things that you may not consider slang that translate VERY oddly!  And it's wonderful if you need a rough idea of what someone said... :)

Thanks for the link!  This could prove to be very helpful.  I am impressed that it has made the distinction between Mexican, European, and Latin American Spanish.
