Financial literacy workshops for teens

JACKSON -  The Jackson branch (2 Jackson Drive) of the Ocean County Library will present "Dollars and Sense: Financial Literacy for Teens" on Tuesdays September 22nd and 29th at 7 p.m.

The session will help students in grade 7 through 12 prepare for a lifetime of managing their money wisely.

Finance specialist Murray Blasz will present a two-part course on credit, savings, budgeting and more! Teaching materials will be provided by The National Endowment for Financial Education. The workbooks will be used during the two sessions of the program, and then given to the participants to keep, free of charge.

Thanks Amy, I hope so too!

This has been a big pet peeve of mine since I got into the Mortgage biz back in the 80's... People just are not taught the basics of money in school!

That is SO TRUE! Kids think in terms of intangibles rather than durability. Hey money grows on plastic trees, didn't you know?

I wonder where they learned this . . . hahahaha!

Robert, this is a great concept!  Why wait till things messed up to teach grown ups how to manage finances, they should be taught when they were young.  Hope you have great success on this one!

Hi Robert, I couldn't agree with you more!  Oh if they had a seminar like that in our neighborhood, you can bet I would be there with both of my teenage daughters!  Our schools fail to teach our children about money and finances, balancing a checkbook, shopping for a mortgage, buying a house, oh I could go on and on...  Sounds like a great program!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I still wish this was a basic part of EVERY High School Students curriculum, Required to graduate!  there was a Bill in NJ that has been floating around that wants to make it a requirement for Seniors, but it has not past because the schools cant figure out how to fit it in.
