I am still new at this. How do you earn points for links and bonus points?
Hi Carol, and welcome to active rain.
I don't think Active Rain gives linking points any longer.
As far as bonus points, you can earn them in many different ways. If you report spam, you can get points, if you fill out your profile properly, with enough information, photos, if appropriate, etc., you may get extra points; if you write an Active Rain success story (I can't remember if that's exactly what it's called - but it also shows up under your profile), you will also get points .... and sometimes the AR Gods just feel like being nice to you, for a good deed they witness, or whatever, and they will shower you with bonus points. :)
Bonus points come from contest Bob Stewart will run contest from time to time check his blogs for contest. Linking points are given when you link your website to active rain. I have a personal website that I linked to Active Rain and received points. Also if you have a Listing Book account and website you can link Active Rain to it and receive points.
Carol, you can send Bob an email and ask him, but I'm pretty sure I read one of his comments recently, where someone else was asking about linking points, and he said they are not giving points for linking their websites to AR any longer. They did this a long time ago, but the rules have changed.
He will be able to give you more detailed information on any questions you may have...

I wondered about that myself, so thanks for asking the question and thanks for the responses.
Carol,
Thanks for asking the question..I have been trying to figure that out as well... But instead of askingfor directions ..I just kept driving by the gas station :)

Hi Ben,
Unfortunately there is no longer points being awarded for linking to your website. As the network has really began to flourish, it was taking up a lot of time to keep track of it because we would have to manually visit each page to see if it was placed there. Sorry for the confusion. If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to ask them. Also, as you are getting started, I would highly suggest taking my Blogging Basics 101 webinar. It can really help get you started in the right direction with ActiveRain & you blogging career.

Carol, thanks for asking this question, and thank you Sylvie for mentioning ActiveRain success stories. I didn't know you could get points for that.
Wow, I was a little confused about linking points, I did a search for linking and got all the answers I needed. Thanks everyone.
Question? how you post a featured blog?
Roy
This question and the answers has helped me understand a lot more about how the points work, thank you everyone.
This should be a featured post! I think a lot of us arenot aware that Ar stopped giving points for this, I also thank you for bringing it up.
After reading your post and the comments my questions have been answered. I was trying to get everything with my profile and website set up properly and wasn't sure how to do the linking.
I see. thanks for the information. Although no additional points are given, I believe there still is a benefit to linking our other sites together with Active Rain, any info on this?
This really helps out, thanks for posting the question we all wanted to answer to. But if they got rid of linking points, how come they still show up in points summaries?
I would love to know how someone who is ahead of my with points just shot up another 10,000 points in a week and has never posted a blog in his life.....
Here it is 2013 and I was wondering this. It is still showing up in the Points summary.
