Morgan Hill Merchants Cut Off Noses to Spite Face - Ears Worried.

If you know Morgan Hill, you know that the downtown area needs help. The city council done diddly and squat to effectively remedy the situation.

One thing they did decide to do was to loan the owners of the El Toro Brew Pub $400,000 to cover construction costs. Remember, this is a LOAN.

Well, some merchants in the area starting crying "Favoritism" - confidentially of course - siting the owners of the brew pubs long standing community reputation. It is THAT VERY REPUTATION that should make the loan a no-brainer.

These are folks who want to settle down and make a successful business in downtown - WHERE IT IS DESPERATELY NEEDED! There are darn few destinations in downtown. However, the El Toro Brew Pub is one of those that could help increase the overall appeal of downtown to shoppers, visitors and folks looking to go somewhere with some atmosphere.

So these same downtown merchants who seem to think this loan is a bad idea are the ones most likely to benefit from the success of the brew pub.

This could just boil down to the short sightedness of merchants that see the brew pub as competition.  What they don't get is that the downtown will benefit from the largest number of options for the shopping public. The brew pub stands as a unique establishment downtown, with no other peers catering to the same tastes.

We want the downtown to be a place where folks know that they can just park and wander and eventually come across something that strikes their fancy. As it is now, their fancies are getting satisfied elsewhere - and that is the problem.

Sounds typical. Some people will never get it.
