Any Questions?

This is private enterprise at work:

A brand new 747-400 runs about $260,000,000 (260 million). Some of the newer freighters are going for more than $300 million.

This is our Government at work:

A brand new F-22 Raptor costs 339 million without ammunition. A B-2 bomber costs 2.2 BILLION each.

The government wants to run our health care system!

Any Questions?

My son is in the Navy and I want the very best for him but even he has a problem with the price difference.

  Both Parties are to Blame.

Terry - just one question, what is your point?  That military aircraft cost more than civilian?  Or that defense contracts are doled out to about 4 different major contactors that can name their own price, collude and rig bids in a grand free unregulated capitalistic market at its finest?  Duh!  When there is complicit "competition" there is really no competion, you have made an excellent point although not the one you were intending to make.

You're comparing apples and potatoes. Supply and demand is the key. The demand for 747-400 and freighters, not to mention F-22 Raptors and B-2 bombers is virtually non-existent, so obviously the price is going to be high. The demand for health care, on the other hand, is universal, which is why it's called universal health care and everyone deserves it at a reasonable cost.

I'm quite surprised at someone from Texas not understanding the theory of supply and demand. But Zoey the Cool Cat still loves you.

I love all my ActiveRain friends.

Terry - the same things in the military world, that you can get in the civilian world, cost much more. When I ran our tech shop I started buying transistors on the open market, i.e. 2n2222 cost $4.00 each, through military supply they were $220.00 each. I could get the highest quality magnetic tape (yeah, it was that long ago) for $80.00 a reel instead of $240.00 a reel.

BTW - trying to use the economic rule of supply and demand does not work with a government institution. I am quite surprised that someone who brings it up doesn't understand that.

Mike you are so right, as usual. LOL. My point was, that no matter how it starts out, it will always end up costing more for some reason. All the government wants to do is get in the house, then they can start re decorating. The never back up when something dose not work, they spend more to cover up the mistake. You are right though it is not about supply and demand at all. Hey, let me know if you come to Family Reunion, I will buy you a beer. :)

In August 1998, Greece signed an agreement with the US government to buy 20 ex-USAF Block 30 F-16s. The aircraft, costing USD $12 million a piece. I really wonder why we needed a new fighter jet at 339 million when we had clear superiority with the f-16 and the F-18. Really guys, this is not political, I do really wonder. Is the technology really that much more? I would rather see them buy drones that are unmanned than spend 339 Million on one aircraft. I think it is an example of perceived unlimited funds and home cooking by law makers. Save money and save lives, I would hope. If it did not save a life then, I say spend it.

Hi Terry, it seems it does not matter if it is trains, boats or planes or even a small waste basket.  If it is for any level of Government the prices always has a huge mark up.  Are they just stupid or they just don't care... it's not their money.  (There wouldn't be any kick backs, would there?)

Terry, I get it.  This is the same govt that doesn't see anything wrong with paying $435.00 for a $6.00 hammer.

No matter what the cost, the government has NO business meddling in my healthcare! It's none of their business.

This is a real question not me being flip...........That said if our government is so bad at what it does, Why do we claim that our way is the best way. I hear so things the government is bad with, why don't we change our style of government? Again I'm not being a smart*** I'd like some dialog. I mean sure Norway has a higher standard of living. But; they are what the size of Tnn. and Va.?
