All the new rage is social media this social media that. We hear about it every day, on the Internet, TV, emails even at work. But what is it really? What is “Social Media?” How can social Media help grow your business? First let’s start what the definition of exactly what social media is and what it is not. There are many different platforms for social media. There are websites like Facebook, Myspace, The Better Networker, and for my Real Estate and Mortgage colleagues, Activerain. These different platforms or meeting places you might term are where you can literally meet anyone from anywhere around the world. I personally have friends, online friends as most might call it, from people all over the globe from China, Australia, Great Britton, Nigeria, Twain, and a host of others. These are people that I would have never met had it not been for the Internet and social media. These are real live individuals that I exchange thoughts ideas and even do business with. The Internet and Social media have changed and reshaped they way we all interact, form relationships and do business forever. One can either choose to bury their head in the sand and hope things go back to “normal” or embrace the changes and leverage the power of the Internet and social media. The change is no longer coming, it’s now. It’s your choice, embrace it now or get left behind wondering what happened. Social Media has taken human interaction to a new level. With the advancements in technology one can be meeting with hundreds of people from all over the world from the comfort of their very own home, while still in their jammis (however if this is the case I would suggest not using the video CAM).

Now you might say that is all good and well, but how can it help me in my business? Well consider this, there are according to http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm there are over 1.6 Billion Internet users wordwide. That’s about one quarter the world population. That number approaches 75 percent of the population in North America alone! That’s 3 in ever 4 people access the Internet. Weather you are a Realtor, Loan Officer, Restaurant Owner, Electrician, or pretty much anything there is a market for you via social media and the Internet. When marketing online it is best to remember one key thing, and this is where social media comes in. PEOPLE DO BUSINESS WITH PEOPLE. Think about it for a second. When you buy something, don’t you feel more at ease when you know the person or persons you are dealing with? I know I do. No one wants to be sold to, but everyone loves to buy. In social media, that’s where we form the bonds, social interaction.

Like many of you who are reading this blog, I am a Realtor and Mortgage Broker. I do Internet Marketing training as well. If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to ask me, I would be more than happy to help. My Best, Lawrence

Terrific post, and I hope everyone reads it.   You went right to the heart of the matter -- this is where the consumer "is".   If we're not there, we might as well retire.    It's definitely not biz as usual.

Consumers are tired of the old marketing tricks.  "I sold a billion dollars in your neighborhood"... What the consumers want to know is are they going to be confortable working with you.  The guy that sells a billion may not have time for one phone call, much less getting you to closing smoothly. I agree, people want to know you and like you.  That is the great thing about Social Media.  Good post.  :)
