Do you want to Fish or Cut bait?

My father had a more colorful refernce to the same topic; but there are two basic types of people in the world when it comes to shopping- Process people and Results people.  This is especially true in real estate.

Process people enjoy the shopping proccess.  For them the looking and the comparing are all the fun.  Some people even have no interest in a house; they just want to see how those other people live. They are called Lookie Lou's.  For others the proccess is a form of therapy when done at the mall this is called Retail Therapy.  When done in real estate it is called a Waste of Time.  Often times the proccess person does not really want to buy a home because then they can no longer look and the job of keeping the home up and paying the mortgage takes front and center.  All the things they imagined they could do to the home they now have to do!

You probably think I like Results people; and I do; I am one.  But results people have issues to sometimes we rush into things to fast; we don't stop to think.  In the words of my hero we just want to Get-r-done.  Results Shopping in retail is also know as Power Shopping.  The combination of Power Shopping and Retail Therapy can damage a credit rating.

In real estate you should appreciate the proccess but keep your eyes focused on your goal.  Do not be distracted.  Getting the right home sometimes takes time; but you also have to move when you find the right one.

Gene, I too am a results person. I make snap decisions. Sometimes this has cost me dearly. But I still do it. I guess I have confidence that if I make a bad decision I will have the ability to make a correction. Unfortunately that doesn't aply to all the real estate I bought from 2003-2005!!!
