Well finally THAT day had come and Rachel and I were off to Toronto to get her settled into University of Toronto.  Two weeks ago we set off - and were picked up at the airport after a late night arrival - by my cousin Lucky and his girlfriend Heida - and hightailed it off to just north of Coldwater in the Muskoka region.  We breezed through Toronto in the middle of the night  and 90 minutes later ended up at his lovely Cottage on the Lake.

My knowledge of Muskoka was limited....I'd heard of Muskoka chairs (look remarkably like Adirondacks to me :-)

The Classic Adirondack/Muskoka ChairDefinitely the symbol of cottage bliss!

And that its an absolutely spectacular place to be in the autumn with the incredible foilage colours......And that the whole lake region is a popular getaway place for not only Ontarians but for many Americans and Europeans as well.  Over 2,500 sq. miles of sparkling lakes and rivers, endless recreational activities. (Highway 11 North at Severn Bridge and Highway 400 North at Port Severn.)

Well I'm far from an expert on the area - and I only got a glimpse of it for about 5 days.........but here's a peek from a room with a view:-)

While staying there we visited - Wasaga Beach, with it's 14 kms (9 miles) of beautiful sandy beach on the shores of Georgian Bay and said to be one of the longest freshwater beaches in the world; Orillia - located on the shores of two connected lakes: Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching and which shares the same birthday as Canada............

Next stop Coldwater enroute to Toronto where Rachel was movin' in...

I used to go through that area weekly.  I miss it sometimes.  My folks lived south of North Bay but since they are gone I haven't been home in quite a while.  Nice scenic reminders!!

Liz, that chair looks suspiciously like an Adirondack chair to me..... But who cares, just let me sit my butt in it, near the bonfire, with that view!!! I would be in heaven!!!

Great post, great place, great photos! And are you ok now that your daughter is gone?

Melody - it certainly is a beautiful view they have :-) - So June you're from their originally?

Andrea - I'm with you on that one......and to tell you the truth - its one of the hardest things I've ever had to do -leave her behind - and come home to any empty house for the first time in 25 years....:-(

Liz --- your photos, as usual, are fantastic --- just beautiful. Am sorry that you are experiencing the empty house syndrome --- I've been there and it is no fun --- as you say one of the hardest things we have to do.

After a few weeks, you will be fine.

Hi Liz...What a wonderful view, wonderful view.  Any time I can see water I feel as though I'm in heaven.

Please update us on how Rachel is doing at school and how you are doing at home without her.  I guess you're going to have to get out there and sell, sell, sell to help you get over the aloneness.

You can call that chair anything you want.  If you're sitting in it, looking at water, it's the perfect chair.  I'd love to sit in an Adirondack (have it your way), looking a the ocean, for a change.

Not a bad view to be stuck with.

Hi Liz - Glad you enjoyed our cottage country playground.

Be glad you went to cottage country late at night and not during the mad "slow rush" up north on Friday nights.  Takes a lot longer at that time.

Liz - What absolutely gorgeous photos!  I'm with Andrea....just get me a chair with those views and that bonfire and I'd never want to leave.  While it must have been hard to come home without Rachel I know you must be just sooooo proud of her! :)

Hi Liz, what a fantastic & picture-perfect adventure, simply getting someone settled at the University of Toronto (makes me want to enroll!)  Your first paragraph reads like the intro/beginning of a wonderful novel... really impressive... you are living the story! Cheers :-)

Oh Liz you were in Orillia?  I bet Al and Peggy Cunningham were probably there at their cottage at the same time.  You missed me AND them.  What about you Marc?  Did you see Liz around Toronto?  It seems she was everywhere.

Funny about the bonfire.  I just put a photo of one in my last post about the cottage also.
