Colorado - Chinese Drywall/Sheetrock Hazard

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Clients' Choice

Apparently during the big home boom from 2001-2007 drywall manufactures imported drywall from China because there was such a high demand for it.  Little did they know that the drywall was highly toxic.

If you have experienced numerous air condition coil failures, your copper electrical ground wire have turned black, and you are suffering from upper respiratory issues, nose bleeds, unexplained rashes, or severe allergy type symptoms, your house may contain toxic imported Chinese Drywall.  This means if your house was built or remodeled during that time.

I haven't come across this in any homes that I know of in GA, but my father was telling me about a whole community that was built with it near him.  Is there a remedy for it besides tearing it all out?

Jen, not to my knowledge.  I believe there is a company in Florida, (I think) that just filed for bankruptcy because they built with it and can't afford to pay for the damage.  What a mess!  If I hear of something, I will let you know!

Thank you!

Thanks Brooke. It was a company in FL that I was talking about. I've been through the community in FL and they are fabulous looking homes. Hopefully this remedy will work, although I still think that's expensive, but the alternative is worse.
