The Lake Naomi Club, through its members, supporters and donors, has affiliated with a local hospital to provide free screenings and aftercare, if necessary, to uninsured or underinsured women in our area.
The money, raised by the Lake Naomi/Breast Cancer Committee, stays here to help women locally. This year, the money was raised through golf and tennis tournaments and in 2008 with a golf tournament at Lake Naomi. This year more than $35,000 was raised; in 2008, $27,000 was raised.
An extensive silent auction with gifts is donated by local businesses.
Through the raffle this year's prize was a handmade quilt donated and created by Lake Naomi Quilters) and live auction, prizes given out are gift certificates, golf foursomes, hotel and spa stays, NASCAR tickets, Philadelphia Phillies tickets and golf school. It's gathered by the Lake Naomi committee with the help of the community, merchants and residents.
A cocktail party and dinner have replaced prior years' luncheons, in order to enable spouses and significant others to participate in this charitable event.
The overwhelming enthusiasm of the Lake Naomi committee and community and our local businesses have made this event more successful every year. The fact that all the money stays in the Pocono community only adds to its success.
Women can get the help they need with a mammogram or financial help for utility bills, mortgages, transportation costs and other expenses that women in active treatment may find difficult to pay for.
