After spending 5 days at the cottage on the Lake at my cousin's - I was off to small town Coldwater to catch the coach to big town Toronto!  While waiting for the bus I had a few hours to check out this quaint little village.

The Coldwater Mill - This Landmark Grist Mill was constructed in 1833-34 for the Ojibwa natives who had been settled on 3969 hectares (9800 acres) between the Coldwater River and the Narrows at Orillia on the western side of Lake Couchiching.

Don't you love this house?

Now with a sign like that who would't fall in love with this cafe? :-) Fuzzy's Cafe

Treasure Image My stomach started growling and the aroma of blueberry peach coffee cake drew me in to Back in Thyme. Rich in quaint charm, this shop featuring antiques, reproduction furniture and primitive wares is located inside the late-1800s building that once housed the Coldwater General Store. Inside, the original tin ceiling and wooden slat floors add to the sense of time standing still.

The Purple Sock - An avid knitter with the surname of Stitchman opens a shop in a small town and introduces its population to the many benefits of knitting. Hundreds learn how to make their own mittens, socks and sweaters, while embracing knitting as a pleasant way to forget worries and reduce stress. This story may sound scripted, but it's fast becoming reality at the Purple Sock. The lady who owns this quaint knitting shop definitely knows her wool and yarns.....

And when I got into Toronto and picked up a ' 100 Things to do in Ontario Book'  and guess which 2 business' were written up? :-)

Lenn - thank you!  I've often sighed with envy looking at posts of your 'quaint' village- imagine living there instead of just visiting! :-)

Sylvie -I guess it was worth doing all over again eh? :-)

Tim - hmm I think a few people might be interested in borrowing it :-)

Lisa - Oh me too -visiting is great - but how cool to live in it? :-)

Liz - Like Tim, I love the "We're not famous but we are getting there" sign.  It's always so nice seeing photos and writeups of the wider surrounding area as well as one's own hometown through the eyes of visitors from other provinces and states.

Isn't Coldwater great?  We used to stop to eat there everytime we went to my inlaw's cottage years ago.  Then they made a bypass for the highway so we never went through anymore.  I'm glad that you found some interesting photo ops while waiting for your bus.
