Lake Conroe Sailing Association Boat Parade - 07-04-2009

One of the many things that I love about living in Spring TX is the accessibility to Lake Conroe. This last Independence Day Lake Conroe Sailing Association hosted a boat parade on Lake Conroe.

I posted pictures from a flyover of that parade on Speechless Sunday. I had a lot of people that thought it was an air show and as much as I love air shows this was a flyover the boat parade. I don't know anything about the planes but they were Incredible. William Johnson came up with the idea of doing a post the day after submitting "Speechless Sunday" pictures to explain the pictures. I decided I did not want to post an Independence Day Boat parade on Labor Day so I waited until Tuesday to explain the pictures.

This event was very cool for us as it was the first time we had both of our young adult children on our sail boat at the same time. Our daughter was taking the pictures and our son was at the helm. We were supposed to be motoring but it was a windy day and our son wanted to know why we were not sailing. Since this was his first time on our boat since getting out of the Army we hoisted the sails and sailed around the parade.

I think a boat parade would be a very good time to watch, as well as participate in.

Hi Marchel, A boat parade is always fun. I remember they used to have one every year in Clear Lake at Christmas (or maybe it was Kemah.) :o)

Marchel, I thought it was an air show...but I love the boats. Seems to me you got two shows in one and they're both wonderful.

Marchel, what a great parade! I would have to be like the guy in the raft if I were to enter, but it does look like a lot of fun! The airplanes seemed to have added a lot to the parade as well!

Marchel, what great shots you got - I am jealous, it has been so long since I've been on a boat! How did you get the pictures to cycle through the way you did? That is so far above my skill level, it is in the stratisphere - I couldn't even figure out how to get clipart on my post this morning... I've done it before but couldn't remember how... Kudos to you for the photography and the tech know how!

Wonderful way to celebrate the 4th of July. We just do the traditional fireworks on Lake Raymond Gary.

I wonder why we don't have a Fourth of July boat parade here. We could have the Nimitz, the Ronald Reagan, or any of the other 52 Navy ships home-ported here. Of course, then we might have to dispense with Fleet Month in October, and that would not be good.

Great slide show. We have Fleet Week coming up shortly, which really is just the start of a whole month of military activities.
