With all the hype of social media today do you often go in and Google your name to see what comes up?  I'm sure you do as everyone is trying to track their Google Juice and see how they stack up to the competition.  However for some "ego" surfing has become their favorite past time!  Do you know agents that spend most of their waking hours on Facebook, My Space, Active Rain, Twitter, etc?  I can't help but wonder how productive they are in the real estate market.

Can an agent list and show homes, present and write offers and still spend a good part of the day networking on the available mediums?  How much time a day do you devote to social media?  Inquiring minds want to know home much time you feel a full time agent can afford to spend without their business suffering?

I can do twitter and facebook in less than 15 minutes. Blogging is never longer than an hour. Although important, I don't let social media interfere with my work as an agent...my clients are my priority.

Michael,

I think this is true for the majority of agents. Thanks for your comment!

I absolutely agree and it's the main reason I do not post more often! We have to work...right? Great post and very relevant! Should be featured!

Hi Dorie:

I just mainly concentrate on AR.  Just spend a few minutes on the others, every so often.

Try to keep it all to an hour a day...

Sometimes an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening.

Russell,

Your posts are always worth waiting for! It is hard to spend more than an hour + a day. There are just not enough hours for any private time if your busy with real estate!

Hi Toula,

I also agree that AR is the main place to spend most of the time. I think an hour most every day and sometimes more is doable but there are only so many hours in a day! You always have the best photo's!!

My last five buyers found me through social networking/blogging so I think it's worth it but only if it's something you really enjoy!

What I like to do is blog about questions clients ask a lot so I have a "notebook" if you will of FAQs on my blog so when I meet with a new client I can ask them to read over my posts and it helps them get up to speed rather than trying to cover all the topics at once. Makes things a little easier on the client and me :-)
