The American Niagara Falls are spectacular! This is it!    You need to see both sides of Niagara Falls to say you've really seen "the Falls".

The majestic beauty is pretty humbling and it can't but help foster a sense of awe and wonder.   There's Rainbow bridge in the background traverses from Niagara on the Canadian side - over to the U.S. side...so bring your passports!

A Perfect place for writers & artists to have their creativity sparked ... where was my laptop when I needed it?

It is estimated that 75,000 gallons of water flow over the American Falls each second however it amounts to only 10% of Niagara's total waterflow..

Over the years the continual flow of water has caused  large sections of bedrock to fall and remain at the base of the cataracts. One day these falls might very well turn into a succession of descending rapids.

See the boat at the bottom?  Thats the Maid of the Mist! Find out more about it on my next post! :-)

"Although it was wonderful to see all that water tumbling down, it would be even more wonderful to see all that water tumbling up."

-- Mark Twain

Liz,

I enjoyed viewing those pictures, it would have been great to have had an audio clip to go with the tremendous ROAR(forgive me TLW) that is so much a part of the falls.

It has been many years since I have been there, but I do remember just how close you could get on the American side just upriver of the falls.  It was scary to think what could have happened if you stumbled.

Thanks for sharing your trip.

Bruce - That's a great idea to take a video of the Falls to hear the ROAR!!!  I'll try to do that next time when I am at the Falls.

Liz - Very nice shots of the Canadian / American border that cuts right through the Niagara River as well as both the Canadian and American Falls and the Rainbow Bridge that Secretary of State Hilary Clinton visited in June 2009 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of an agreement between Canada and the USA.

I knew about the Maid of the Mist. But I didn't realize Niagara Falls actually straddled the countries. That's cool.

Liz - Great photos... and yes I have been to and seen both sides of the falls.  Did you go to the bottom of the falls?

Hey Liz, I've crossed that bridge! And walked under the falls too! What fun it was! Thanks for bringing up a wonderful memory. The photos are spectacular.

Hi Liz, Hope you had a good hair day there.  That wind and mist can do wild things with your hairdo. There is always so much to see and do there.  We really enjoyed our lunch and view at the Sheraton Fallsview this summer.

I must admit that I prefer the Canadian Falls.  Sounds like you had a great trip out-East.
