ActiveRain has big advantage over other blogs

By
Real Estate Agent with HER Realtors

"ActiveRain has a big advantage over other blogs"

that's a quote.

Or maybe it is a paraphrase.

Vlad Zablotskyy actually said "AR" rather than "ActiveRain"  he quote:

"I have not included Active Rain blogs simple because AR has big advantage over other blogs." back in 2008 on a post on my ActiveRain blog....  where I mentioned a site with the 100 top real estate blogs.  There were no ActiveRain blogs on Vlad's list and in explaining why in a comment why... that's what Vlad said.

The post was   "Top 100 Real Estate Blogs - Did YOUR blog make the list? "

Vlad said ActiveRain had a big advantage over other blogs on my post critiquing his list.  My WordPress.org grapes blog had NOT made the list.  Sour grapes?

Vlad the scaredy cat

That's when I first met Vlad.   The name Vlad makes me laugh because my kinda-sorta-step-cat-in-law is named Vlad.  As they say "it's complicated."  Vlad the cat is one of those scaredy cats that you never, ever see. I have probably seen him twice.   Vlad is there but he hides when strangers are in the house.  Even his kinda-sorta-step-person-in-law.

Back to Vlad the man

Vlad (the mans) initial list of the top 100 Real Estate Blogs was on a blog he called Geek Realtors (NAR trademark boo boo) Vlad's 100 Top Real Estate Blogs domain is for sale.  $100.

I tried to find the most recent list.  No luck.

My criticism of Vlad's 100 Top Real Esate Blogs list was that there was no rhyme or reason... Matrix which had a PageRank of 7 was number 106 while local blogs on WordPress.com with very little traffic, no page rank to speak of were ranked higher.

I don't know that I was even surprised that there were no ActiveRain blogs on Vlad's list.  That was before the first round of Outside blogs were introduced wasn't it? ActiveRain blogs would not have had individual URLS to compare.

The blog on Trulia was on Vlad's list, Zillows blog was on the list. I would think those blogs would have a big advantage over an agents hyperlocal blog on WordPress.org, Blogger, etc. or even ActiveRain as a whole now that I think about it.  I was not looking for ActiveRain on the list though.

2008 is ancient history now..

Blogging on an Outside blog on ActiveRain?   Don't let anyone tell you ActiveRain is not a good place for someone in the real estate industry to blog... remember "ActiveRain has a big advantage over other blogs"

I have found that to be the case as well. So I am very happy. When I first started other realtors in the area smirked. Now they are joining

ActiveRain is included on most lists of the most important places to be - including this month's REALTOR magazine.

Maureen, A lot of these sites are on it's infancy, they have just started. It will require a team effort from our part to maintain Active Rain a number #1 ranking up there.

Look a Trulia, just a few years old and the tremendous achievement.

Active Rain has been alive for many years and it's dependent in our own individual efforts.

Great Post

I personally think Active Rain kicks butt.  I am still rather new to all this but regardless of the blog potential I have learned a lot from the posts that I read.

I had not seen that comment from Vlad on my 2008 blog post until today.  Somehow it got buried.  Chris Griffith was lurking on that post this morning and I clicked... (whosamung us link to see where someone was on my blog...)  Chris is almost willing to run naked through the streets of Bonita Springs FL for some blog recognition.

I have got to know Vlad the man since that post.

I don't think the list is anywhere to be found but you can buy the domain.

Jonathan was doing a list with outside blogs .... I mean really, really outside blogs (not our AR blogs ) for awhile and ceased...  it's gotta be a lot of work.

I think ActiveRain has a very deserved place on that list Brian. Thanks guys for the comments.

I'm enjoying playing in the rain.  And have learned so much about blogging and the techno stuff.  AR is a valuable tool in my business.  You need to post a photo of Vlad the cat sometime - love to see him!

Frank or Jodi   thanks...

Susan See him?  Fat chance.  He was a long haired black kitten when I first met him but he must be about 10 years old... I have seen him once or twice since.. he was a big black long haired cat running away.

My step-cat would be jealous.  I blogged about him once but that made MY dog jealous.  When he heard about it.

Vlad the man who is an ActiveRain member but I see him more via Twitter has a shaved head now on his AR avatar, or maybe he always had a shaved head.  I just associated with him today. I would have thought I woulda long ago.

He is verrrrrrry interesting on Twitter .

ActiveRain is a good place to learn but don't short change yourself especially if you have the Outside blog. Use it.  Outside blog badge

Hi Maureen... in my experience, ask 100 people where they think you should be blogging and you will get 100 answers (sometimes even more).  Anyone who claims to have the definitive answer goes to the bottom of my credibility list.  Everyone should just pick what works for them, stop analyzing and just start doing!

No Vlad the man is an expert...   he did not include AR because they have an advantage or as Bob says: "Active Rain kicks butt"

Hi Maureen, Sour grapes did you say?  Well I was on a walk the other day and came across these wild grapes.  Not sure if they are sour.  I ditto Steve's comment above.  We are very behind in Canada.  Notice I did not say backwards.  I can't think of any Real Estate Blog sites here.  We don't even have Trulia.  Active Rain has been slow to catch on but that's fine with me.  I will take all the SEO it gets me for my town.  I have met lots of other agents on here though from other parts of Canada.  So I think AR will be a great referral system.  I already see how many agents in the different States in the U.S. are successfully referring business.

Love the wild grapes.

ActiveRain has an advantage....  agents that use AR for hyper local blogging have an advantage... Jon Zolsky and I were talking about you on the comments of another one of my posts this week.

My step-cat is not friendly to strangers especially little strangers.  Children with their shrill voices and sudden movements terrify him, he'll either go under a bed for the weekend or stay outside.  Even big strangers in the house scare him but he eventually gets curious if you can keep him inside.

One of the agents  in my office used to have a cat named "Fraidy cat"  I always think "was her cat's name Scaredy?"  I love the name "Fraidy."
