Yeah,  I know we have Localism but, months back I started a group titled What's Hot in Virginia on the ActiveRain Network.

(What is Active Rain?  Read the ActiveRain FAQ .  To join the network, click here.)

Lately certain person(s), that should remain nameless have been posting fluff pieces to increase their points so, I feel compelled to go over our posting guidelines.

Guidelines for posting:  The purpose of the group is to discuss "What's hot and what's not in Virginia Real Estate Market".  In other words something Real Estate that directly affects us in VA.  Not things that are already happening nationwide unless you have a direct example on how it's affecting Virginians.

For anyone that cannot keep up with the spirit of the group and decide to become a renegade.  The group's new Administrator Tchaka Owen or I will notify you of your violations along with a refresher of our guideline.  Keep doing it and we will change your status to "Member -- Can't Post".  Continued misbehavior will result in removal from the group.

Caryll,

I am on the border of Virginia and there are many clients in Virginia that buy property in the Outer Banks.  I didn't see any guidelines posted on your group - so added them to the list.  I had never even visited the group until I got this email.  I will be sure to not add any additional posts to your group.  Fluff pieces?  Your email and post were not very professional.  If you had a problem with me - you should address me instead of "nameless person".

I can see you feel offended but that was not the purpose of the post or email.  I have been receiving email complaints from other members about your post.  You are free to post just as long as you don’t violate the group spirit.

Caryll,

The parts that bother me are what you said and the way you delivered it.

  • Lately certain person(s), that should remain nameless have been posting fluff pieces to increase their points

I didn't know I was publishing "fluff pieces for points".  I will subscribe to your blog in order to improve my writing skills.  Hopefully with time, I will learn to write more meaningful posts.

I was trying to target an audience that might be interested in my area - not "Violate the group spirit" whatever that is.  Like I stated earlier, if you had a problem, a personal note would have been a more professional way of dealing with a problem vs. blasting your issues online.

It was not meant as a direct blast to you that is why I did not mention names.  Now you have taken it extremly personal- removing all your blogs and yourself from the group.

There are tons of different groups for different things so when posting to a blog group one should ask themselves " does this particular topic match this group"  That's all I am saying

i.e Daily information on Mortgage rates would be better suited under a mortgage group than What's hot in Virginia.

In your first comment you said:

I have been receiving email complaints from other members about your post.

Your last comment stated:

Yes I have taken it personal and you still have not addressed my issue.  If you had a problem with me, you should have addressed it with me before "blasting it online".

I give.  If you are just trying to bait me, the hook is too far down and I can't get it out.

yes is said I received emails but you automatically thought it was all about you.  You have made this so personal.

I guess if you feel guilty then you may be guilty.

as the post said in the future

  • I will notify you of your violations along with a refresher of our guideline
an I meant with a personal email not a post.

Caryll,

This is getting ridiculous.  It was about me.  You admitted it.  I don't feel guilty.  I am frustrated with the way you handled this.

:) It as been fun chatting it up with you today.

Honestly the 1st email I read this morning was about you, so I decided to make a post outlining our guidelines.

I did not mention your name out of courtesy and I probably should have send you an email personally but I did not want to individual attack anyone with out posting some form of guidelines.

But it was really fun going back and fourth with you today.  I think you took it harder than what it was meant to be.  Your welcome to come back to the group when ever you like just as long as  you do violate the spirit of the group.

 Happy Father's day weekend

I'd like to jump in here and say that there isn't a problem with North Carolina members posting to the group, particularly since a lot of OBX visitors and owners are in Virginia.  Issues in OBX, Maryland suburbs and parts of WV certainly do impact some people in Virginia.  I also hope people everywhere (worldwide) who are interested in Virginia real estate contribute because we all benefit from shared knowledge.

The issue at hand is the amount of 'non-Virginia' postings.  For example, general mortgage and rate issues should be posted in 'Mortgages' and other groups that take on a national scale.  Of course if there's new VSDA loan info that benefits (or hinders) us and/or our clients, by all means that's "hot" in Virginia.

Bottom line:  everyone is welcome into the group, but please keep the topics Virginia-related.

Thanks.
