Mother's Recipe Box:  Grandmas's Baked Beans

Grandma's Beans

  • 1-2 cups dry beans from last year's pole bean crop from her garden  or 1 lb can baked beans
  • 1 lb can butter beans
  • 1 lb kidney beans
  • 1/2 medium onion  (from her garden of course)
  • 1/2 lb bacon cut in small pieces  (she prefers slab bacon)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1-2 cups beef or veggie broth (depends on type of beans you use dried or canned)  Add more if too dry.

Optional:  ketchup & dry mustard  How much?  It depends on the taste.

I think I will have to experiment to get Grandmas' Baked Beans to measure up to the family's expectations.

Mother's Recipe Box:  Cranberry Salad, Apple Crisp, Elderberry Pie, Golden Corncake, Carrot Salad

Sounds good. I might have to barbecue some chicken tonight and corn on the cob to go with these beans!
