The gated mountain community of Mountain Oak Reserve offers lake front, lake view and wooded properties. All parcels are two or more acres and have community water, underground utilities, lots of green common areas and septic permits on file. Located in Murphy, NC in the county of Cherokee, Mountain Oak Reserve overlooks a five acre lake and mountain views of the surrounding Shoal Creek and Hiwassee Dam communities.
Not far down the road from Mountain Oak Reserve, you'll enjoy visiting the Hiwassee Dam. Surrounded by the Nantahala and Cherokee National Forests, Hiwassee and the adjacent Apalachia Reservoir serve as a rich habitat for deer, wild turkey, and other animals. Below Hiwassee Dam a day-use park on Apalachia Reservoir provides access to boating, fishing, and exploring the reservoir and its tributaries.
The Hiwassee is exceptionally beautiful and the perfect place for canoeing, rafting, and boating. The flow of water in the reservoir comes from deep below the surface and is chilly, even in the summer. However, there are plenty of Black Bass, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Spotted Bass and Walleye for enjoying the day fishing.
In addition to recreation, Hiwassee Reservoir serves a number of other purposes, including flood control and power generation. The construction of Hiwassee Dam began in 1936 and was completed in 1940. Hiwassee Dam is 307 feet high and stretches 1,376 feet across the Hiwassee River. The generating capacity of Hiwassee is 185,000 kilowatts of electricity.
Another favorite for locals and visitors is the Fields Of The Wood. A Bible park where God's Word is displayed amid God's creation. The park is open everyday from sunrise to sunset and admission is free. You can visit Fields of the Wood Gift Shop and Book Store, Gospel Theater and Prayer Chapel, Snack Bar and Picnic Areas then head on out on the Nature Trails for a hike in the surrounding woods.
As you can see Mountain Oak Reserve is surrounded by USFS lands providing plenty of hiking, camping and exploring. And Lake Hiwassee will fill your days with plenty of water sports and activities for the whole family. This is one Mountain Community you won't want to miss coming by and visiting - who knows, you might just make it a permanent visit.
