GREEN EarthI recently wrote a post titled I Think I Have Just Heard Everyting and I had an overwhelming response.  I discussed alternative home insulation from Recycled Materials.

If you have been on Active Rain for awhile you know that ECO minded Professionals have a lot to say.  There are some of us that are EcoBroker's and others that are advocates of GREEN Building and enjoy the Eco All Star Group of which the amazing JaneAnne Narrin moderates.  We have a great time in this group and have some Interesting conversations that go on over there.

Through my recent post I realized that members and consumers that are not aware of ECO minded products tend to stereotype Green Groups.  I have even read posts on Active Rain chastising Green Efforts. I thought perhaps a little GREEN Education would be appropriate.

In the past it has been for what many would consider "TreeHuggers" and Environmental Activists.  However, I was inspired to join this movement for other reasons and I would like to share this with everyone. Look at it as helping the environment is just a bonus for a moment.

GREEN Features are designed to help the consumer.  Every Human Being.  Here is how.

Have you been affected by any one of these things?

The By-Product of many common household products can affect you.  Carpet, Vinyl flooring, insulation, paint, light bulbs...you name it.

For those of you that do not care about health issues because we will all eventually die one day, the next section is for you.  Have you been affected by:

  • High Utility Bills
  • Certain rooms in the home being warmer than others
  • Wanting to qualify for more house that will reduce your bills
  • Noisy area (near an airport, busy street, or just loud neighbors?)
  • High Maintenance Homes that require lots of work

Surely I have your attention now.  Everyone is affected by your pocketbook.

GREEN Products are Proven to lower your utility bills.  There are even Mortgages and IRS tax breaks for using these products.  I am re-insulating my house and will receive a 10% Rebate from the IRS at the end of the year.  The mortgage takes into consideration that your utility bills will be lower which allows you to buy MORE home and lower your interest rate.

GREEN Products are Proven to reduce noise in the home.  Tired of hearing cars drive by at night?

The Greenies of Active Rain consistently post about these products because they affect everyone.  Using Newspaper to insulate and recycle will help the Trash Dumps.  GREEN Products may save trees.  But what is it doing for you?  The one and only.

So if you have not considered looking into alternative features, you probably should.  If you want to comment negatively about saving the universe, think about it first.  GREEN products are for everyone, we just help the environment at the same time.

It's just a matter of people who put labels on others who are looking out for the environment. No labels here in Hawaii...everyone want to save our land and try to do something for our environment. Good job, Steph.

Hey Sally,  I would imagine that preserving land would be top of mind in Hawaii.  As it should be.  :)  Thanks!

I've been reading all your posts on this subject, trying to learn more about it. I have never, one-time, heard anyone in this area mention eco-friendly or green houses.

Hey Lisa, many times we write about the products used in sustainable homes.  There are several conversations going on about homes themselves though.  Thanks for stopping by and Thanks for reading my posts on GREEN topics!  :)

Another great post Stephanie. I struggle with trying to be more eco friendly. I am from Mississipppi where polution is not nearly as bad a problem as LA or NY. I am not a tree hugger or anything but I do want to live a little more nature friendly.

Steph~

THANKS for brining this subject up for the 30-some thousand AR members. The trend toward healthy-built homes, sustainable design and living spaces...as well as toward preservation and stewardship projects is one that we real estate professionals would do well to note.

THANKS too for the nod to me and the ECO-Group...we do "write good stuff"...I'm smiling.

Great post, luckily I became exposed to thinking about our environment many years ago.  There are so many useful alternatives out there that people just don't know about!

Stephanie -- I think that for many people it is a matter of ignorance.  Thanks for writing this post in a straight-forward, non-threatening way.  Maybe others will begin to understand the importance of taking care of our world.

Hi JaneAnne, it's a pleasure you stopped by!  I think it is time that people understand what the "big deal" is about Green products.  It's not just about the environment anymore. Although that is a wonderful benefit.  :)  This is the beginning post for several more to come for me.  I will be talking about the topics in this post.  Opening the door so to speak.

Hi Ana, that's good to know.  I am hoping to post about these and get the word out.  See you around!

Hi Joan, Sometimes I think you are right. Other times I think it is just not knowing the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.  I think if the facts were laid out, many would get it.  Thanks for stopping by!
