It sounds like you made the right decision for you. I'm glad you didn't let them push you around.
Patricia - I have been doing this a long time and I am very busy. Maybe I'm doing something right?
Melissa - I think they knew my service was superior, just wanted a better price. Like all home inspections are created equal, right?
Erica - they called me. I did not return a single call.
Irene - now THAT would have blown her socks off!
Michelle - precisely what I thought. I felt a real relief when I hung up the phone!
Pat - that is probably a restaurant lots of people enjoy!
Bryan - it's not only a two-way street, but at times a super highway!
Lewis - ummm... what I'm thinking probably isn't correct, so I will keep it to myself...
Alexander - I know a lot of agents who do that. Kind of a house warming present!
Thank you EmMee. I am glad you found my post!
Sharon - this kind of thing can alter an entire price structure. And then, once everyone is used to the "lower" price, they want to negotiate downward again from there!
Virginia - I could have! Do you think I would have collected? You think I have a shot? Gotta be!
Christine - thank you! I'm glad too...
Hey Jay,
Thanks for sharing that experience. I"m glad you were able to connect the dots and stand firm. Be sure of one thing, it won't stop there. All of us in the real estate industry provide a valuable service, let's stand our ground.
Eric - no doubt it isn't stopping! And I agree, let's stand firm...
I would ask... why do you keep calling me if this other person is doing all of this stuff for you? Obviously there is reason... maybe that you do a better job...
Jay,
I am glad you did not back down but did you ever ask them why they did not just call the other person?
Hi Jay. I have my share of people who want to negotiate my fees too but I don't budge. I'm glad that you didn't budge.
Jay:
Some people just need to negotiate price. They have to "win" in their culture. I figure I'm not the right realtor for them. They can go find someone else to play games with. I'm glad you didn't back down. They don't deserve to work with you.
Thanks Lane. I would like to think so! It is obvious they recognized something...
Knightyme - that's where we finally got in the end.
Lana - I don't understand the mentality. If I buy new pair of boots from Cabela's I can call and ask for a different price, but they will simply sell them to somebody else at the published price...
Carol - Thanks! Unfortunately our country is filling up with these game players.
Jay,
I had a similar situation where I got an inspection the other day yet the client was surprised at the price as some other firm had offered to do it for one hundred bucks less. It will be intersting to see if he keeps the appointment or keeps calling to find someone cheaper.
Steve - or gets his wife to call to try to get you to come down in price!
Jay - what a crazy story. I can't believe this husband and wife team had that much time to get a home inspection done. 'Round here, no one gets more that 3 - 5 days.
Reuben - many contracts around here are written for 3 -5 days. Some as long as 10. Depends on the realtors involved. But this case was different in many regards!
Jay,
I have had a few situations like that. Other times a friend of mine and I will compare notes on calls. Seems those people are always shooting for gutter ball prices.
Steve - it is disingenuous at best. At worst it lacks integrity - these are the types who on the other end would not let a seller off the hook of anything. There's a scratch on that wall - paint the whole house! Isn't there a parable about that?
Hi Jay:
Great post! Good for you for sticking to your guns.
Your quote is classic...."I started bowling when I was 8 and I can add really well. But as you see, I don't subtract well." That was AWESOME!!!
Mr Jay,
Had I realized you needed a photo, I would have sent a photo of cousin Wheatloaf your yours truly. I really detest chipmunks.
Nutsy
Thanks Toula. I have used that line over the years many times. It works! I wasn't trying to be impolite, just firm.
Steve - Nutsy - I think chipmunks can be cool, but they do a lot of damage. Thanks for the photo. Do you have any 8x10 glossies? And autographed? How about, "Thanks for all the good times. Your pal, Nutsy." Regular mail is fine.
Mr Jay,
I could send you either the Billy Jack poster or James Bond. Both are very valuable.
Nutsy
