Real estate professionals vary greatly in shape and size (or is that experience and knowledge?) ... Certainly not all professionals work at the same level. When talking about buying or selling a home, most other investments pale in comparison. A home can be your largest monetary, time, family and emotional investment. With the stakes so high, it is undoubtedly very important to do your your research and to select a great professional.

Check out this video about a man who purchased and renovated the WRONG home. Who's fault is it? He thinks it is the listing agent's fault. Is it? I am not 100% sure, but I know one thing, I'm glad I'm not in the mix of this!!

I hear a lawsuit somewhere in here.  I hope the listing agent has enough E&O.

There must be more to this story - where was his attorney?, where was the title company?, where was the bank?? where was the condo owner before the renovations were completed?Who paid the listing agent?

This smells rather fishy, it's not like you can do a $30,000 makeover overnight and the owner all of a sudden show up when he gets done?  I bet he has a line of attorneys trying to get this case.

That is a horrible story, but it really makes me wonder how this happened for so long.  How did he get keys to the wrong place when he closed, yet they still worked?  It seems fishy to me.

Steve, nothing funny about this story.  All the hands the paper work passed through...yeah, Jason is right...something fishy here.

Hope he had title insurance?

Was the wrong legal on the contract?

Did he have attorney review?

Did he not read the documents?

Did his lender not go over it with him?

Which one did they do the final walk- through on?

Sounds like lots of goofs........and costly.

Steve - I remember hearing about this story and if I remember correctly, the primary reason for the whole screw-up was because the buyer chose to use the seller's listing agent to represent him instead of getting a buyers agent. The lesson here: BUYERS NEED TO GET THEIR OWN BUYERS AGENT AND NOT USE THE SELLERS LISTING AGENT TO REPRESENT THEM!

I'm not sure who to blame for this one... Did he not see the unit before he bought it? How did the key work in #4, if it really was #5 that was for sale. Was the owner of #4 also the owner of #5? A lot of unanswered questions here that may lead to who is to blame. Did the MLS show #4 for sale and what did he write on the purchase and sale agreement? If he wrote #4 and the deed said #5, then maybe the title company is to blame? Still in the end clearly got the wrong keys or did he have to break in and change the locks?
