Yes, there is only 1 Saturday left after today before fall or autumn officially arrives on September 22, 2009.  Where did the summer go?  Here in Oakville, it seems summer just began at the end of August.  We have had an amazing first two weeks in September.  Sunny and dry.  Yes dry, when baseball and soccer season here in Oakville has finished or is winding down.

It was one of those seasons when even the rained out games got rained out.  Labour Day weekend has come and gone.  Cottage country has gone quiet.  Here is a glimpse of how cottage country survives after the crowds have gone home.  Vacations are over and the kids are back in school.

But life goes on in cottage country.  There is a quiet beauty.

Bonfire by moonlight

The best way to end a day in cottage country is the traditional  bonfire with marshmallows.  Moonlight and good conversation are the icing on the cake.

Goodbye summer.  See you next year.

Those ducks kill me. :)

Beautiful photos ... and I can't believe we're saying goodbye to Summer. It only arrived here in August. This is way too soon.  I am not ready (however, looking forward to some beautiful Fall colours, hopefully up North, even if just for the day).

Jenny - I love the mohawk duckling photo too as well as the great Georgian Bay sunset.  I wish the summer weather had started earlier and that Toronto did not have their strike this summer.

Waiting for fall...

Jenny:  Yes... dear... all the pictures are just wonderful.  But... I had some real trouble simply getting past the first one.  Little ducklings with their back-to-school Mohawk hair cuts.  How darling can they be ?  Thanks so much for making me smile this late at night.

Now Jenny, stop rushing the end of summer... we have to use up every day seeing there were fewer this year.  By the way, some of the nicest days up north are ahead of us.

People will be flocking northward to see the change of the leaves.

Love your mohawk duckies. I don't think we have fall here, unless it involves tripping over the sand dunes at the beaches -- LOL.

Hey Fred, Well that's a good question.  I don't eat marshmallows but I don't have a girlish figure either, darn it.  Too many other good things to eat lol.

Hi Pat, I would love to hold one of those little guys and rub the back of their head.  I bet it is SO soft.

Hi Sylvie - Yes, and the end of August actually, before summer arrived.  Hasn't it been a grand 2 weeks?  I was out and about again today.  I'm going to take advantage of it while I can.  We might head up to Parry Sound this weekend.

Hi Karen Anne, Aren't they precious?  I was hoping to get some better shots but they just moved too fast.  We were in the pontoon boat and my father in law pointed them out.

Hi Steve, what are the autumn temps like where you are? Probably still pretty warm?

Hi Leilani - Getting back to nature is always good.  Time to reflect and enjoy the quiet beauty as Jason mentions above.

Hi Jason, I like those two words together.  Quiet beauty. Sounds kind of sexy.  Your fall is pretty similar to ours.  I love Pennsylvania.  Especially shopping in Erie and Grove City.  And no tax on clothing.  How civil.

Hi Kris,

I'd be very happy to have your company.  I took some great photos in Michigan on our road trip this summer.  I just never got around to posting them.

Hey Mr. & Mrs. C. - You're right, I will enjoy the last week of summer as much as I can.  I always used to hate fall because it meant winter was coming and it would be a long time until summer arrived again.  But now, in my later life :) I enjoy all seasons.  Each has it's own beauty.

Hi Russel, I guess we take our seasons for granted.  It really is amazing to see the trees change color.  The crisp fall air.  The smell of woodsmoke in the air.  O.K. stop it already.

Hi Randy, Aren't they adorable?  Yet when we see kids on the street with mohawks we never say that they look cute lol.

Jenny,

A nice little photo documentary of your day. I thought it was going to be the duck picture which was great. Then we got to see all the others. :)
