Speechless Sunday - OUCH!!!

This weekend we went to Colorado to celebrate my Mother's 84th birthday. My sister lives out in the country and they have been feeding this guy and basically nursing him back to health. They think he probably got hit by a car as he has half an antler and walks with a limp. That is corn on the end of his nose. __________________________________________________________________________________________________

Awww how sad (the antler and limp part). I do hope he's able to make a full recovery. Lucky he's got people that want to help him out.

Next year the antler should return to normal. The limp will take time for sure. That is nice they are giving him a hand.

Marchel, this is unfortunate that animals suffer like that! I have seen similar ones here in Utah.

Marchel, I hope he/she recovers. These are such beautiful animals and probably an unfortunate accident.

That does look very painful Marchel. I hope a full recovery is in order.

Marchel: He should make a good recovery if winter doesn't come to early to cause him any hardships. As I type this our two spring fawns are out running around the backyard; they have made this their home.

CHANDA, For sure the antler will come back but he will probably always be walking with a limp. According to my sister he is doing LOTS better than he was a few months ago. He does look pitiful though.

LYNDA, It is so sad seeing him shake that little bit of antler by his face. He wants to get rid of it but he is stuck with it until his antlers fall off this winter.

TREY, They are giving him a hand. They have special deer feed to help make him strong.

GARY, My Mother had a wonderful birthday. Her actual day is tomorrow but we celebrated on Friday and it was a picture perfect day!! I am blessed to still have both of my parents at age 84 and 92. My Dad is in incredible health. They drove here a few months ago and surprised us, pulling their little camping trailer. Isn't that amazing!! I would get in to the car with him any day. He drove a supply truck to the front line during World War II (through the entire war) and is still a GREAT driver.

DIANE, My sister calls him Opus and he does look sad. They are giving him a second chance.

SHARON, It is good to see this guy getting a second chance.

TONY and DARCY, It is sad to see them suffer like this. My sister had another one come in quite some time ago and he was in really sad shape. She has not seen him since so no telling what happened to him. I watched a healthy coyote taking down a rabbit on her land. I guess in some ways it is survival of the fittest but they are helping this poor guy have a chance.

CAROLE, They are beautiful animals. She is feeding an entire herd and we got some great pictures of some of the healthy guys. I will post them at sometime.

GARY WOLTAL, I'm not sure if that leg is ever going to be totally the same but for sure that antler will come back next year.

CARL and CEIL, Should winter come early my sister and brother in-law will be there with their deer feed. They said the patriarch of the herd came last year in the middle of a blizzard. My brother-in-law is the softy and ended up getting all his winter clothes on and going out and feeding him. Then he got the feed bucket too close to the house so had to get all his stuff back on to go out and move the bucket farther away. That extra few feet did it and the patriarch left with a full belly (lol).

Oh ~ poor little critter. I'm glad he was saved.

Marchel: That is just awesome that your family is helping to nurse him back to health. The Good Samaritan applies to helping animals as well as helping people. Gentle huggs to all of you. :)

When the deer lose there antlers it does not hurt them, it's kind of like losing a baby tooth... No big deal...

He's deffinately a odd sight however! nice photo capture..

He is probably always going to be around... Unless, of course after he grows that antler back and wanders away might become someone's trophy. :-(

I don't have anything against hunting, we just don't hunt... would I guess if we had to. I hunt with my camera.

I wonder how the car fared.

It's really nice that they have chosen to help him.

There is something interesting every time we look on your blog roll! Happy belated birthday to your mother! 84 years of life! .... and 92 for your Dad! WOW! That's a blessing... were they there with you for your son's return? Thanks for making it plain and bringing us into your family by sharing with us in your comments. I do appreciate your sister and brother-in-law caring for the dear/elk?

MONIQUE, He does look very pitiful. The good news is that next year those antlers will come back and be bigger than ever.

RITA, It will be hard to tell who he is after he loses the antlers. I expect he will still have that limp though.

KAREN ANNE, My brother in law has become the deer whisperer. They feed a small herd. This is the second deer they have nursed back to health. I have a good picture of the patriarch of the herd and he had the broken leg last year.

CARON, He is an odd sight. I'm sure that he will be happy when it is time to lose the antlers.

JUDI, They live in an area where there's a lot of country homes so not very much hunting. Hopefully he will stay close this winter. They seem to know a good thing when they have it though.

CYNTHIA, He does look very pitiful.

JOHN, He is a lucky guy having someone looking after him.

DIANE, I am so BLESSED to still have both of my parents. I was blessed to have Ozzie and Harriet (AKA Harry and Lucylle) as parents!! They were not here for my son's return and I thought it was strange that they were not bugging me about seeing him. Then come July they showed up at our door surprising us. I truthfully thought my Dad would not make that trip again but they did and enjoyed it. They drove from Colorado to Texas pulling their little camping trailer. My Dad drove a supply truck to the front line during World War II and is still an incredible driver. I would get in the car with him any day. I am blessed!! Our son is doing GREAT in college by the way!!

Marchel, Oh, my goodness, this poor guy! But, so lucky for him that your family is trying to help him get back to normal.

Hi Marchel, At least he survived and has some kind people looking after him. It makes me feel sad when I see a deer on the side of road that has been hit by a car.

KAREN, My sister and her husband are enjoying all the deer but especially this one. He will almost eat out of the bucket my brother-in-law puts out.

SANDY, This guy is probably alive because of the help he is getting. He was in pretty poor shape when he showed up.

SHIRLEY, I feel sad when they are hit also. My daughter hit one when she was in high school on her way to school; in the dark. She was in our F150 and hit it straight on. She was hysterical but luckily she was okay with no damage to the truck. I'm sorry to say the same could not be said for the deer.

MARY, It was a fun weekend. I'm enjoying visiting my sister's land in Elizabeth. We lived in Westminster when we lived there so it is a whole new area to check out.

Oh are you still in Colorado? You are always invited to drive to Red Feather Lakes, should you feel the need for a 2-3 hour road trip ;-)

Oh my goodness this is so sad! I hope the poor thing is doing better than he looks......lucky for him that he has some friends.

He might simply have been the loser in a nice rut. It is rutting season, you know, which is a significant reason why hunting seasons occur simultaneously with rutting season -- easier to find the bucks.

He clearly knows where to go to get "some love", that is great! Belated Happy B-Day to your mom, a fellow Virgo! We LEFT Colorado for our B-Days, (hubs if 3 days after me) and went on vacation!
