Well this is really not a secret but it is a great idea I didn't think about prior to hearing about it through Paul Endress' Maximum Advantage.

Paul's focus is on discovering a persons core values so that you can focus on that to know what values drive their decisions.

One of the tips he shared which can trigger a persons historical values is probably the simplest one I've heard of.  I know there are agents or home owners that like to bake cookies in the over prior to an open house and that certainly can trigger memories for people and their childhoods.

This tip is even simpler.  Drip a couple drops on the stove with vanilla every hour or so and this will put of a calming and pleasing odor which will help trigger positive emotions with people when they walk through your house.

Bill, dripping the vanilla isn't EDIBLE like the cookies- if no one shows up, I can eat all of them without guilt!  I don't think that the owners would care to find me licking vanilla off of their stove...:)  I'd suggest, if looking for people's core values, to try what a trainer told us:  when they say they're "just looking", ask them, "What do you mean by just looking?".  SOUNDS RIDICULOUS.  But, try it- it's really amazing.  Magic words:  What do you mean by ----?- it gets people to share the things that are important to them (especially the question: "WHY NOW?").  I forget the trainers name, but have used these questions to connect myself to the individuals needs now and then, and it's very effective, and very helpful to the consumer when trying to find a property for them.

Thanks for the tip.

Paul Endress say to ask this question when you really want to know a persons core values.

"What is most important to you about ........?"

You can get down to the core value by asking this over and over.  I haven't tried it yet but it makes sense.  Everyones core values are different and its important to know what is most important to people so you can be on the same page.
