There's no question that email has revolutionized the communication process. Now with a single mouse click you can let everyone in your entire customer base know just what a terrible speller you are. Using email to sell effectively is a skill, however, and many salespeople need a serious refresher in the dos and don'ts. In “21st Century Selling: An Anthology of Advice from Top Sales Pros” (21st Century Selling, 2002), contributor Auren Hoffman offers the following suggestions for composing sales emails that get read and inspire action.

Write your emails with the expectation they will be forwarded. Before clicking send, ask yourself: Will this make sense to anyone who reads it? Always clarify context, eliminate acronyms and refer to people using full names. Even with customers with whom you have a close relationship, try to strike a balance between friendly and professional.

Kevin, I like your series on the use of Emails. Almost on a weekly base, usually when I list a new listing, I will email all my contacts and encourage them to pass along the listing.
