Raleigh, NC, Dorothea Dix land. DIX306 Proposed and Bid by Raleigh City Leaders

I mentioned DIX306 in February with hopes that this project could become a reality. A world clas destination park on 306 acres just across from the Raleigh skyline!

Is it one step closer? Raleigh is making a bid, backed by some development bucks and a fair amount of public support.

It is all over the local news today. What a relief from the Paris Hilton sludgefest!

This gorgeous property with 120 foot wide sprawling oak trees is such an opportunity for open space for public enjoyment for perpetuity.

Don't worry....I'll keep you posted.

The plan proposed by Charles Meeker and the Dix Friends again did not mention the Wake County Botanical Garden proposed World Class Dix Botanical Garden that is advocated by a large body of people across Raleigh and North Carolina. To leave out the most important proposal to date will only devide the public support they, Dix Friends, say they are seeking with the Dorothea Dix Hospital Property Raleigh Mayors proposal. Broad public support for the Dix Botanical Garden is real and being ignored by Raleigh's Mayor.

I think that the real deal is the setting aside of 306 acres. If fragile egos get involved in what type of park it is before it set aside, it is a very real possibility that Governor Easley's vision of office buildings may come to fruition.

Botanical vs, public park? I don't have a preference. It is a no-lose if either is the end result.
