parents

I always get a kick out of watching the number of parents who take the time to walk with their kids to school!  It's like a parade in Canyon Creek every morning school is in session.  Many little ones pull along their rolling backpack or have one strapped on their back.  Often times the back pack looks bigger than the kids!dogs

Canyon Creek Elementary has a traffic flow pattern for those driving their children.  There are crossing guards to help  you across the streets and of course the right of way is always to those on foot.  Some kids will ride their bikes with mom or dad right behind them with a younger sibling.  The neat thing is I see lots of dads partaking in the morning ritual.  Kudos to you guys who make it a priority!!  Your children will remember this precious time spent with guardthem ~ great way to create wonderful memories!

How precious do these little guys look! I remember walking to school every day for six years. The parents would take turns walking or driving on rainy days, we really got to know the other kids and families in the neighborhood, they're people I still keep friendships with.

Dorie:  What a great post for Localism.  The pictures are great, and your vivid descriptions of the moms and dads walking and biking their kids to school makes it feel like we are right there with them.  This sounds like such a nice neighborhood... lots of nice folks, it appears.  Great job !

Dorie, I did not have the luxury of my Mom or Dad walking me to school. I think the thought never even dawned on my Dad as he started work early and neither one felt it was necessary from a safety perspective. But we are a different generation and lucky that we can walk and drive our kids to school on occasion. Great post.

It is like a parade and happens every morning as these little ones are off to school!

Barb,

We are a different generation. I feel for parents having to worry about the abductions that go on in our country of wonderful children.

Hi Dorie, I remember always wanting to walk by myself - the first day, I turned around and found my mom following me!  It's nice that parents and children get to start their day together with a walk.

Russell,

Being a former school teacher I really like supporting our community schools. I've been on the Canyon Creek Elementary Advsiory Board since they opened! It's a good way to keep a pulse on what they are doing and their needs. Thanks for the birthday wishes but my birthday was the end of July!
