Below is an email that I received from Cynthia Flores at the Round Rock Serving Center regarding their annual Coats for Kids Drive. With her permission I have reprinted it here.

The Round Rock Area Serving Center assumed responsibility for the Round Rock Coats for Kids project in 2005. This is a collaborative effort with the Round Rock ISD and the community of Round Rock to provide a coat each winter to the children enrolled in the Free Lunch program. Each year an average of 3,500 children receive a coat from this distribution. Last year, a total of 4,000 coats were distributed.
The distribution day is Saturday, November 7, 2009, and the distribution takes place at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock. Letters, regarding the pre-registration for the event, are distributed, by the school nurses, and the Serving Center distributes the coat voucher to the family. The voucher is then redeemed on the distribution day for a coat. At the conclusion of the distribution, any leftover coats are returned to the Serving Center and are distributed during November and December until the coats are gone.
The Serving Center is a charitable nonprofit social services agency and serves the Round Rock, Hutto, and Wells Branch areas. The program services include a food pantry, Round Rock Coats for Kids, clothing and furniture vouchers, and financial assistance toward rent, utilities, prescriptions, gasoline, transportation, and temporary lodging. We have a Community Gardens program as well as Computers for Kids and Computer skills training. The agency is staffed primarily by volunteers and is supported by local churches, civic groups, businesses, the United Way of Williamson County, and the city of Round Rock. Many of our clients struggle to pay their bills and purchase food. The Serving Center has been helping people in this community since 1986.

We are also in the process of collecting new and gently used coats. Attached is a flyer. Please feel free to send it to your friends, neighbors, church groups, girl scout and boy scout troups, moms and dads clubs, or post it in your break room at work. Donations are accepted Monday - Saturday 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.
Finally, adult volunteers are needed on distribution day, November 7, 2009 from
